Warhammer Quest Coming Very, Very Soon?

Alas I'm not talking about the tabletop game of Warhammer Quest but the iDevice game by Rodeo Games that should have been out during the Spring of this year...
While the official website hasn't received an update in a long while the Facebook Page has been abuzz with activity. Here's what they have to say about the release date problems...
"We don't have an exact release date right now. Allow us to explain why...
We need to pass the Apple submission process. Without going into how it all works, as we're not allowed to for NDA reasons.... If for some reason we fail this step, then that's another couple of weeks added to the release date.
So, you see, we're not being evil. We just don't want to make a promise about a date, and then not be able to keep that promise. This has happened in the past, and people tend to be not very understanding.
Best for all concerned that we say "It'll be with you in late May.....very probably"."
So not long to go if this is anything to go by. It'll be really fun to see what this game is like when it finally hits. I played it during it's very early stages at Games Day last year and I can't wait to go adventuring with a Dwarf Slayer.
Now if only I had an iDevice...
I imagine the number of people who actually would be interested in this app is small compared to the number of those who would’ve been interested in a new version of the boxed game. Alas Game Workshop’s short sightedness and greed these days means we’ll never see it as it’s much easier to farm out a license to an app developer to make a second rate game on a platform not everyone can afford hundreds of pounds for.
The way I see it is that we’re getting Warhammer Quest back in some fashion. Sure it isn’t in the form we wanted it, but its Warhammer Quest…in a new format, bought back for people to play again.
Besides you can always play other equally good (if not better) dungeon crawlers like Descent from Fantasy Flight Games.
Yeah, can’t really see the tabletop version standing up against the new competition unless they did a pretty serious rewrite.
Oh I don’t know. My friends and I still play WQ on a regular basis and it remains one of the maddest games out there, especially once you crack open the Roleplay book, add in some of the additional Warriors and start rolling on the “Events” tables 🙂 I did start to think that GW are probably now in the perfect position to think about doing a “Big Box” edition of Warhammer Quest, what with the number of push-fit plastic minions they’ve put out they could fill it with a small horde of Orks, Gobbos, Skaven, Skellies & Chaos Warriors,… Read more »
They said that they couldn’t re-release it due to not having any of the digital files any more?
Always seemed a bit dubious to me. Just find somebody with a copy and re-type it. Hell, for a new version they probably would have changed the layout, all the artwork and half the rules anyway.
By saying that a new boxed WHQ game can’t be made because of the lost original files, GW is stating that it’s incompetent of making games. Everything can be remade. And in the case of the re-release, most likely everything would have been remade. Just like with Space Hulk 3rd edition. It comes down to money, as it usually does. To make a boxed set game and distribute it, is a sizable investment. Most likely the argument of lost files has its origins in the fan community. Lets hope the WHQ iPad game will generated enough sales to convince GW… Read more »
Why in the name of Satans fettid ringpiece is it only being done for the I-wank?
Would be good if it was also on Android and had a Steam release too. It’s tile based so (and this is from a layman point of view) shouldn’t be too hard right?
I don’t see how it couldn’t be to be honest. There are other much more complicated things that have been released on other platforms.
Rodeo Games is a small developer. Most likely they go where biggest market is and with the one they have the most experience with. That being said they’re first game, Hunters, is available for Android. So it is possible this game will see the light of day outside the iSphere.
Shame it is going to be top-down rather than isometric, though..
