Secret Weapon Create a World on Kickstarter
April 13, 2013 by dracs
Well, after all those glimpses and previews the Secret Weapon kickstarter is now up, so get ready to help them fund their new Tablescapes.
Secret Weapon aim, with the help of kickstarter, to create a set of interlocking plastic terrain panels, allowing you to create the basis for a cool gaming environment and easily transform your tabletop from your kitchen table into a far off world.
This first set is based around a "Scrap Yard" theme, and further themes are promised to appear in the future as they pass stretch goals. For example, upon reaching the $16,000 mark Secret Weapon will be able to work upon the rather cool sounding "Urban Streets" Tablescape.
The kickstarter has already garnered a good level of support, will you be chipping in too?
This looks great and can be easy to transport.
Free shipping is welcome.
They look great but I’ve never seen much point in making the ground fancy when more effort could be put into making terrain better or cheaper.
My thoughts exactly. With designed boards, you are unable to re-position the details. Might as well buy a few models and make your own destroyed tank into several pieces imho. Or perhaps the bits box could be raided for scatter terrain which you can move around and place where you please. £100 of models for you to destroy would also make the board very themed and you could always get models that you only need a certain piece from, I.e. a weapon turret to switch between your other tanks.

Where are the skulls!? 😛 I just absolutely love the pits of skulls on my table that cause cocked dice
This is really good news. I always loved to have this kind of board but GW simply is too expensive. Here you could take a board and build terain straight onto the board because the price for a single piece is simply so low. For under 10 euro you get a board that also will work as a base for your houses and ruins. Adding movable terrain is also important as someone pointed out but having a modular board for this affordable price gives the base board a true level up. instead of a normal flat surface that you put… Read more »
this does look interesting, but its more expensive than the (unsuccessful) games and gears modular terrain board kickstarter
I agree it IS more expensive than G&G’s unsuccessful (but soon to be relaunched) kickstarter. The downside with G&G was that the terrain was ‘plain’ boring IMHO, although I can see the advantage of the style for many people who want to populate the board solely with their own terrain setup. That said, I did like the gaming tray idea that G&G used in conjunction with their boards. Secret Weapon are marketing an interesting, albeit pricier, selection of terrain styles – I am looking forward to seeing the urban landscape range. Whichever people prefer it is nice to see options… Read more »
I myself is one of those games that want the gaming board to look as good as possible, I hate playing on and with boring terrain. I’ve started making a similiar modluar table for fantasy settings and had plans on making a city fight table, but I’ll just go with these tiles instead. Initially had plans on backing the Games and Gears one, but that one won’t launch untill June/July….but I might eventually back that one as well if the designs are interesting enough.
I think I will wait and see if they get to the trench boards otherwise I might try these ones out. http://totalsystemscenic.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1031_1292_1029
I don’t actually think it’s expensive, and fantastic idea to team up with Mantic in the UK.
But it’s a luxury.
