Get Started In DreadBall With The Kick Off Beginners Set
March 21, 2013 by brennon
With Season 2 of DreadBall just around the corner, it's a great time to get into this fast paced Sci-Fi sports game. To help you with that Mantic Games have created the Kick Off & Extra Time Starter Sets which will give you a head start with this great game.
- 1 x Full Colour KickOff Rulebook
- 1 x Mounted Game Board
- 8 x Plastic Corporation Players
- 8 x Plastic Marauder Players
- 1 x Plastic Balls
- 12 x Dice
- 13 x Game Counters
And as if that wasn't enough you can get your hands on more to give you a boost.
- 1 x Free Digital Rules
- 1 x Plastic RefBot
- 1 x Ball
- 1 x Card Deck (54 Cards)
If you got your hands on all of this kit it would have you set with two teams, a physical and digital copy of the rulebook and plenty of other bits and pieces to make your DreadBall experience complete.
Essentially with the Kick Off Kit you're cutting down on some of the components from the full game but it allows you to get playing that little bit faster.
Do these new additions to the DreadBall line up tempt you into this game?

Whats this? a company listening to its customers? giving them what they want? and not screwing your customers to the wall on pricing?
Thank you mantic, we appreciate it, now more than ever.

Not bad. I always thought that if gaming companys could have 2 version of all their games would help them and customers. Example: Full game you get everything, dice, rules, models, templates, ect ect. Then you could call the 2nd version the “Veteran Kit”, you would get NO dice, no rule book, down load rules from the companys web site, or offer a seperate rule book bought apart from the “Veteran” version of your game, no rulers (new 40K boxed gamed). No templates unless your game has different size templates from the Ind standard, if so you could supply a… Read more »
I’m getting more and more curious about this game. Anybody with experience willing to say how it plays?
I’ve played a few times and have described it as “Bloodbowl with hindsight”. The similarity is it’s orcs playing with balls, a casual approach to injuries, etc. – though it’s more like basketball than American football. The hindsight is they’ve made it much quicker and removed a lot of BB’s annoyances.
Most importantly it’s a lot of fun.
Sounds fun. I’ll see if I can find someone to try it with. What I wouldn’t give for a tabletop Rollerball though (based on the original 1975 movie, not the horrifying LL Cool J vehicle from 2002).
Only just starting, very different from bloodbowl in mechanics – its an inevitable comparison but one that doesn;t do it justice – its a strong game in its own right. Great pace and very enjoyable.
Don’t get me wrong I love me some bloodbowl, well pure third ed, but its a great game and with great support from a company I cannot help but like
And just to add to this, there’s a decent intro just gone up on Bell of Lost Souls

And, yes, this one also has plenty of comparisons with Bloodbowl 🙂
Cool move – like a lot of people I played without the ref and cards for the first few games anyway and it still makes for a great game.
Also, to echo what others have said, while the bb comparison is inevitable, it plays very differently. Still very happy to have ks this one with all the trimmings 😉
