The Deadly Quetzalcoatl Leads The Aztecs In Hell Dorado: Inferno
March 5, 2013 by brennon
Cipher Studios have given us all a double whammy today with an update for their Hell Dorado: Inferno Kickstarter. Check out the artwork for Quetzalcoatl below...
From the Kickstarter update...
"The being now known as Queztalcoatl was once an Aztec. His origin and station in society have long since been forgotten. In 1519 when Cortes was rampaging through Aztec lands, Queztalcoatl found a strange portal in the caves near his village. After showing the other villagers and some scouting of the other side of the portal that had mysteriously appeared in the rock, the villagers decided that this was a portal to Mictlan, the underworld. Quetzalcoatl became convinced that the gods had opened the portal to provide the Aztecs with an escape from the foreign invaders that threatened their way of life.
He and the majority of the other villagers decided to withdraw to Mictlan in an attempt to preserve and protect the Aztec’s way of life. The rest of the villagers where sacrificed to show the villagers thanks to the gods for bestowing such a gift upon them. Hell has had its twisting effects on the Aztecs and all that remains of the villagers now is a group of simian Lost tribes, with hazy memories of being human, who revere Queztalcoatl as a quasi-deity and their leader."
Looks pretty fantastic! Plus with the whole 'world ending' fear we had towards the end of last year Aztecs and Mayans are very much the flavour of the moment when it comes to apocalyptic world-ending forces.
Looking forwards to his release?

HELLYEAH! Here is a clear example of why I like the setting and fluff of Hell Dorado – even though Queztalcoatl and his people were basically just naive and “stumbled” into Hell (one could go even so far as to say they took a wrong turn and are good or at least neutral as far as their “alignment” in the fluff goes), they still sacrificed “the rest of the villagers” as thanks to the gods for providing the escape route, just before entering. The irony. No good guys here, naive, stupid, repenting, striving and ambitious yes, but noone is just… Read more »
Yes Queztalcoatl was an Aztec god, but not a Gorilla. Heck gorillas where never in south America. Queztalcoatl was a giant feathered serpent.
Putting the history lesson aside, this will be one kick ass model if they follow the art faithfully.
Dude, what about the Big Foot!?
😛
My thoughts exactly. Wondering how and why a gorilla but cool artwork! lol
It’s not a gorilla, it’s a mutated aztec man that has taken the name of his god and donned armor accordingly…
Oh, hell, you’re right, it’s a gorilla with elephant tusks !
And Hell Dorado used to be so accurate when it came to Uchronia… 😉
Think of it this way; punishing the dude by transforming him into the image of his god (a badass feathered serpent) would be a bit counterproductive in terms of punishment, right? Plus, why should Hell know more about Aztecs that they do about Hell? 😀
The fluff is what brought me to Hell Dorado. Well… The fluff AND the amazing models. It’s been a while since my last game, though. Maybe it’s time to bring my Deamons to the table once again!
What i would like for this game is an easy to read quick reference for abilities and some of the orders … Found it takes quite some time to get used to all the stuff the units can do. The cards dont describe everything in detail. Loving the game so far though 🙂
What I love about Hell Dorado is that there is no “We are the good guys” faction. The fluff is excellent (an finally available in English, the French version was a bit to tough for me…)
I’m waiting for a Hell Dorado week *cough*
I wonder if the book will contain rules to play in jungle board. Helldorados terrain rules with pre game terrain generator minigame is a little laborous but adds much depth to the game. The fact that my Losts have numerous scouts to dominate that feature has absolutely nothing to do with it.
