WizKids Announce The Return Of Mage Knight With Resurrection
February 12, 2013 by brennon
WizKids announced yesterday that they would be reinventing the Mage Knight game with a new release, Mage Knight: Resurrection. Check out a few details about the game below...
"Planned for release in fall 2013, MAGE KNIGHT: RESURRECTION will be a full fantasy miniatures line utilizing the Combat Dial System game platform it pioneered. There will be 25 miniatures in the line, with content pulled from all corners of the MAGE KNIGHT universe. Each figure will incorporate SwitchClix technology, and include two dials one designed for the MAGE KNIGHT 2.0 rules, and a second HeroClix P.A.C.-compatible dial. MAGE KNIGHT: RESURRECTION will be offered in both full starter sets and collectible booster packs, two formats familiar to the collectible industry and fans of the collectible franchise"
Sounds like it could be a pretty interesting re-emergence for this hit game. Maybe more people can finally get their hands on the game and enjoy some nice miniatures too!
Have you played Mage Knight?
Well Warren, you talked about Heroclix in the Weekender, maybe this is somethin for you?
had a read up on boardgamegeek.com and the normal version of Mage Knight got VERY mixed reviews, lots of 1/10 and 10/10. Hopefully the new version will iron out the problems people had with the initial game.
Looking at the models, it looked like the famous painting artist, er….. whats his name………., ah yes Mr B&Q painted them, with there “uber thick gloopy gloss paint of much opaque randomness”
The wide discrepancy of marks the game got may be in some part due to the large number of different expansions and two editions of the game. I seem to recall one of the two was markedly less popular.
Ah, Mageknight .. the game that got me into the hobby.
The first prepainted plastic minis game.
It had “Warjacks” before they were cool http://media.trollandtoad.com/products/pictures/88951.jpg
And yeah the paintjobs were … in a class of their own.
Though for the life of me I don’t know why they’re doing the randomized boosters again. I think simple comparison with the CCG market and the success of LCG format is quite relevant.
Ah well, mr. nova3k bellow gives a concise picture of the difference between the editions. 🙂
Don’t get excited. They are using the Mage-Knight 2.0 rules for the new game. Apparently they didn’t learn what killed the game the first time. 2.0 rules are convoluted and complicated where they didn’t need to be. The game’s charm came from its simplicity. 1.0 was beautifully simplistic, but with so many different units and combinations, the strategies were endless. 2.0 ruined all that. They tried to emulate other games on the market, and rendered all previous sets completely obsolete in one fell swoop. The game declined dramatically and was soon cancelled. My prediction is the game will only go… Read more »
At least they were cunning enough to include heroclix-compatible rules as well as a safety net for customers. How happy would we be if one of the new hobby miniatures games we love came with rules for the new game and one of the established games as well? For example; how much bigger would wild west exodus be if the models came with malifaux stat cards as well? I think how well this does depends on the minis. If they look like the haloclix motocross master chief with dildo cortana the line will likely not see a second wave. People… Read more »
Pity they couldn’t include both rule sets in the box for people to choose from. Never heard of Mage knight till today. doh!
What nova3k said…
The 1.0 MageKnight rule set was one of my favorite games of all time but 2.0 killed the game.
I was so hyped to read this until I got to the 2.0 rule set inclusion. I’m out. D.O.A.
Not too excited for this, There are so many other great games out there nowadays. Man, I used to collect them for so long, then I traded to someone in the Netherlands to complete my Babylon 5 CCG collection lol. I will say this though, if you haven’t played the Mage Knight BOARD game (it is a brain burner btw), then your missing out on a real gem. Vlaada Chvatil created a classic.
