The UK Games Day Slayer Sword Goes Up on Ebay!
October 10, 2012 by brennon
In a rather original if widely considered bad move, the winner of the Slayer Sword at this years Games Day UK has put his prize weapon up on Ebay! Check out the listing....
The Sword is considered by many to be a prized possession and while it's completely up to Karol what he does with it, a few forums and websites have considered it bad form to sell the weapon. He's going to sign it though, so I suppose it's a bit of a collectors item?
Above is the model that won the coveted Slayer Sword. I got to see this up close on the day and it was a phenomenal miniature. But the question still stands, would you sell your Slayer Sword?
If you fancy picking it up, it's still got twelve hours left on it and no bids! (Correct at time of writing!)

I think that 6354 and no bids (as yet) speaks volumes. Like you say It’s his choice of course but still, poor form.

Would sticking it in the bin be better? If he doesn’t like it or doesn’t have the space for it then why not be rid of it, to someone that would appreciate it at that?
tbh this is the only way that i (well many people) could ever get one but its like having any type of reward (ie fa cup medal or bolts gold at 100m etc) and it should be earned
dont get me wrong its his to sell.
i also wonder how easy it was to get on a plane with
There’s a large market for military memorabilia including medals, olympic medals and sporting medals in general, I’m guessing this guy is hoping the sword will invoke a response from a similar type of collector.
Maybe he’s got a few already or he has kids running around, otherwise I can’t figure him out.
My big question: Who’d buy it? Those things are earned not owned. So you’ve got a Slayer sword on your wall. To most people it’s a sword. To people who know what it is…….what are you gonna say. It’s like buying an Olympic Medal. Well done, now what?
well lets face it if all you wanted was a sword on the wall theres a lot better looking ones out there for a lot less
What ever the motive, he can sell it. The challenge is who in their right mind would buy it? Like many have said, BIG difference in owning and earning something.
Surprised it could be auctioned on ebay.
Assuming it is about as sharp as a mouldy cheese but you could still have someone’s eye out with it.
For some reason it is only curved swords that are banned.
Straight swords are harmless.

Yeah it is a bit sad. I guess he needs the cash. Cue snarky comment about GW prices…
lol
I can’t imagine wanting a giant sword as a painting trophy. No matter how far I get into this hobby, I cannot see myself hanging a sword on my wall. I can certainly understand wanting to offload it. Of course, for the same reasons I wouldn’t want this as a trophy I wouldn’t buy it either. Add on top of that the fact that I wouldn’t want to buy an award I did not win and I can’t really see a good reason to buy this. Seriously though, is it possible for a winner to just request a reasonably sized… Read more »
Well they still get the Golden Daemon itself for the one that won. The Slayer Sword is just an added traditional bonus.
BoW Ben
I personally don’t see the problem, it’s his to do what he wants with. I think those comparing it to an Olympic medal or a military service medal forget that there is a substantial market for that kind of memorabilia and the guy here is banking on there being interest in this item for the same reason.
If he’s not got room for it or just plain doesn’t like it then why not sell it off? Claiming that it’s ‘poor form’ sounds so stuffy and stereotypically english it’s just unreal! I think it’s being quite practical, really.
You have just convinced me that there is something decidedly off about selling the sword.
How can you not have room for it? Sick it under the bed with the stereotypical English potty.
Some things are just not cricket what what.
I assume that the hue and cry is not just from the English. So please, less of the racism.
And you’ve convinced me that people will cry over anything.
Not crying. Good old British stiff upper lip.
Interesting, to actually buy a similar sword from the company that makes them for GW will actually cost more than the $600….. I expect a last minute bidding war, but, arn’t these swords etched with the winners name? here are issues with regards swords through customs, but that shouldn’t effect transport across Europe (the seller is Polish), nor should it effect trade to the USA (I have brought swords from the USA) – there may be reasons why he is selling the sword, other than monetary (if he was poor, he wouldn’t travel from Poland just to take part in… Read more »
40 minutes left and no bids…kinda glad, I don’t really agree with selling it and if I was that good a painter I’d be proud to keep it. I guess its up to him but I think it would be weird for someone to buy it to pretend they were good enough to win it!
It sold and I’m glad for him. Perhaps it’s as simple as he needed the money. £400 goes a lot further in Poland than it does the UK, and this is an expensive hobby even by UK standards. For a lot of these Polish guys this is a business. Ok, a business they love being involved in, but the cost of living there is low enough that it’s a viable way to make money. For most people in Western Europe or the States it just doesn’t pay enough to make it worthwhile. If he wants to sell his slayer sword… Read more »
just like to say again its not the seller that annoys me its the buyer. things like this should be earned not oh look ive got money so i can buy whatever i want
