The Elite section is the largest in the new Chaos Marine Codex and you'll find many of your old 40K favourites have made the leap from troops to elite... but what does that mean for your Chaos Marine army?

I would use the Hell Brute to convince my son to eat his dinner…..
I may b wrong, but I believe the axe is +1 st AP3
Axes are +1S, AP2, unwieldy(strike at I1)
gotcha, thought it was I3, hence my belief in AP3
Berserkers are stil Berserkers, plague marines still plague marines, etc Chosen as troops would be great if it wasn’t the 265 point Abaddon that did it, as it is they’re still good just not as good as terminators, random rolls each turn might be fluffy for the possessed but its a PITA competitively, terminators are the only ones you can’t have as troops that I’d want as troops. As for the hullbrute, the best use for it is convert it to a generic daemon prince then wait till you get that one time there’s actually room to place him when… Read more »
Berserkers are stil Berserkers… Thats the Trouble 1. i4 just does not cut it now day’s your going the same time as all the other army’s that means your going to take losses big time. 2. your going to lose men if you charge 3 charge is random that means if you roll unlucky you die 4 you have to walk of buy land raiders for your guys , because rino’s are a sure way to lose a unit. your not going to get any awere in them and your usually going to be out in the open when it… Read more »
I4 has you striking before most of the tyranid and tau lists, all of the imperial guard codex except ratlings(and really, are you afraid of striking at the same time as hobbits?), all of the necron codex, you strike simultaneously with everything but characters in Daemons and all eleventy-six space marine codices, really I4 isn’t that bad, and very few things outside the eldar lists strike before you, and most of those are the obvious close combat monsters built to rip marines apart anyway. You MIGHT lose men on a charge, but you can always use a cheap unit (EG… Read more »
I’m sorry but apart from Hive Guard (that you’ll never be able to charge against any competent Nid player) Tervigons (that will drown you in Termagants before you get to charge them) and the occasional Carnifex (that will probably be spore podding behind your lines far away from your Berzerkers) how exactly are you striking before Tyranids?
Good catch, I meant sisters in my head but I was looking at the tyranid codex at the time..
only bad thing about the chosen now is that they lost infiltrate
Power Axe is +1 strength AP2, unwieldy, chain axe strength as user and AP4 attack at your Initiative which is cool. Chosen with power swords and mark of slaanesh could be very nasty against other marines, 4 attacks on charge AP3, slice and dice. Heck even basic Chainswords would pump out alot of hits that marines would drop over. Abaddon is a monster but expensive, i think slightly cheap then the last codex. I don’t remember seeing it but if you have twin linked bolters can you reroll snapfire shots if you are charged? thank could be fun.
If I’m not mistaken, doesn’t slow and purposeful just mean that they cant sweeping advance or fire overwatch now? I’m fairly certain in 6th ed they removed the “always counts as going through difficult terrain” clause.
Actually guys all slow and purposeful does now is you’re basically relentless at the cost of being unable to run or fire overwatch
My use for the Hellbrute: Squash it on a scenic 40 mm Base and use it as a Terminator with obesity.
Berzerkers still rock, 4 attacks pretty much when charged as well as on the charge? Just sit them on an objective with them shouting “come at me bro”
slow and purposeful does not slow you down in movement any more!
you cant run, boost, flat out, do sweeping advances ore overwatch, but you move normal!
darrel, poisoned comes in handy against everything, not just against the big stuff. you get to re-roll wounds against stuff you would wound with your normal strength too. my death guard are loving their new rules (although taking psychic tests on typhus seems weird 🙂 ).
Your Hellbrute would make good carpet gripper
You could get a lot of them and nail them to the top of your garden fence to stop people climbing over
I would orkify the Helbrute and make the the Hulk as a deffdread, even green stuff on some purple pants
I would use a Hellbrute against Eldar and Datk Eldar, especially to charge and tie up units like Incubi, which are dangerous to my other troops but canno do anything to vehicles.
I thought Thousand Sons had AP3 bolters, do they not have them this Codex, or did they forget to mention it?
They still have it, Andy mentioned it as “better AP boltguns” I think the main problem for Andy and Darrell is you need to take a Tzeentch Sorcerer to get them as troops which they don’t like, and the Sorcerer has been nerfed a fair bit.
I’d replace the mult-melta with a Reaper Autocannon and the power fist with a Missile Launcher. 120pts for this is almost decent, if you are lucky and roll a 1 on the crazed table you might be able to do a bit of damage as well. Power fist and Power Scourge might be good vs MC, IC and other Walkers as the Power Scourge reduces their WS by D3. 2x Power fist with 2 Heavy Flamers in could be good as well, just keep it back and wait for your opponents assault troops to come close. It’s not the best… Read more »
I think you guys missed the noise marines, I think they’re a good deal, ignoring cover with those special weapons is huge.
And like people have said above, plague marines are better against pretty much everything. Thousand Sons slow and purposeful isn’t as awful as it used to be. Even berzerkers who ultimately didn’t really change much got a slight points decrease. Chaos actually did quite well aside from their terminators being good in the elites section. Sure, besides the helbrute being a bit rubbish…
So basicly CSM now have a problem Eldar have had for a long time: Many Elite choices and only 3 Elite slots. I say HA! Besides we Eldar players would be extatic to have an option making various elites to troops. Even if it were over 200 points. I have to disagree on many of the things said here. “From a narrative point of view” I think the choices are very nice, enabling various builds of very fluffy lists. Lists wich can counter your own mistakes or boost your kind of play. You “stand and deliver” ? Go T-Sons, etc.… Read more »
You guys have the Helbrute wrong all wrong.
Reaper Autocannon and Powerfirst for 110 pts. Send him up the field, harrassing enemy transports or heavy infantry at range. If he’s shot and ganced, he’ll either progress up the field faster OR unless 4 twin linked S7 AP4 shots, which is nasty stuff.
Use the hellbrute as a Warmachine Helljack proxy
For helbrutes you take 1-2 with huron black heart, infiltrate them and then use their multi-meltas to pop enemy viechles before assaulting and accepting your fate, either that or you give them the reapers or lascannon and sit them in front of your havocs or defiler so they get cover from you while your simply shooting away and getting destroyed in peaceful retrospection
I am going to use my three hellbrutes for my ork army actually, little bit of green stuff, some blade work, and I can have some nasty looking dreads thank you very much 😉
