Cipher Studios Ride to Hell Dorado
June 12, 2012 by brennon
Some more previews from the world of Hell Dorado today with Cipher Studios. This time we have a bit of a mounted theme going on so check out the models and see what you think...
First up is Layla Bint Suraya Bint Javaira for the Saracens. A pretty commanding model where she looks like she's commanding her fellow warriors in the midst of a battle. She looks like she could handle herself too with that rather cruel looking scimitar.
Second is Don Quichotte with a flaming steed straight from the pits of hell. I love the contrast between the evil looking horse and the oddly jovial expression on Don Quichotte's face. I suppose he could just be happy killing?
And last but not least is Alazais choosing her next victim it seems. A great model to get stuck into with freehand work if you were so inclined. A lot of bare cloth which could be patterned with whatever your mind can dream up.
So do any of you follow Hell Dorado and love the look of these models?

Beautiful cavalry sculpts – I think Layla is my favourite just for the subtle touches like the plaited mane and saddlebags showing she’s been with this horse a long time, plus the restrained pawing the ground and flowing cloth on Layla herself as she points with her sword add dynamism without resorting to the old rearing-up-on-hind-legs pose. I also like the grin on Don Quichotte (well, Quixote really) and the imperious lifted head and gesturing finger on Alazais – clear indications of their character. Between Alazais’ criss-cross fastened noblewoman’s clothes and the Don’s hellsteed I can see possible conversion potential… Read more »
Those are all great looking well detailed sculpts. From two on horses I am liking most from Layla and her horse. Layla herself has great pose with her pointing with that sword and those sadlebags that her horse has are nice touch.
Don has very hellish look with that grin of his and his horse being hellsteed. Alazais how ever is great looking alternative for VC vampire. She has enough arrogant pose with her head upwards like that and her finger pointing like that to show that she is noble woman who is vampire and her dress enforces that feel.
They’re all great…
I remember Alazais as a very fine sculpt, and she’s sitting on my shelf now… alas, i painted her way back when I wasn’t as skilled as I am now ! Oh well…
Don Quichotte certainly is one of the quirkiest models in a range that is in itself a tongue in cheek uchronic hommage to History and litterature…
As for Layla, the detail is amazing, of course, and all of the Saracens have quite the arabian nights ambiance, as opposed to a real middle-eastern feel…
Quite a good re-release !
