Ground Troops Flood the Battlefield for Dropzone Commander
June 4, 2012 by brennon
Check out some more models from the world of Dropzone Commander by Hawk Wargames. This time the ground troops are moving up to support the walkers...
Another interesting round-up of miniatures. It's great to see more of the Scourge and just what they send out to attack in close quarters. Eerie monsters that have a very different feel from the other factions.
But its not just troops, there are vehicles as well don't worry! Here is the Kodiak Command Vehicle for the United Colonies of Mankind looking very flashy.
If they don't make a Real-Time-Strategy game of this I think someone's missing a trick. Don't forget the website goes live on the 8th of June with the game launching on the 23rd of July.
What do you think of their troopers?

You really have to remember the scale when looking at those troops – after being wowed by the vehicles and aircraft these aren’t at the same level but they are still good. My fave yet again is the Shaltari unit – the armour for the Braves made them look like samurai and the effect is even greater with the swords these Firstborns have. The Praetorians have a cool ‘special ops’ feel with their night-vision headgear and the Razorworms really add the alien touch that was missing from the standard Scourge infantry, very gribbly. Unfortunately given how awesome the vehcles are,… Read more »
On the contrary! I hope rules for the infantry won’t make it a must have in large numbers. If we will be obliged to take a lot of them just because they are so good then I have to buy more models that are just ugly (yes I know it is 10mm scale, but they ARE ugly because of it). All vehicles in the game are just beautiful and I am happy to buy more and put them in my lists. Why should I buy more than minimum of ugly stuff, put it in the lists and feel disgusted? If… Read more »
What makes you think you’ll be obliged to take any infantry at all? I can certainly imagine mechanized armies being easy and logical options in this game. I imagine as long as you cover all your bases and make a nicely balanced list you could do well.
All of the above assumes good rules though, if they are bad then who knows what will happen.
The website launch is said to come with BatReps, Tactics and a lot of flavour on the rules. So we shall see very very soon.

From interviews with Hawks we know there will be some limitations (you can’t make air only army) and I think it is reasonable to expect some obligatory choices. Of course it may be that you will be allowed to field vehicle only army but I’m afraid it won’t rocket infantry sales… I usually play what I like – i doesn’t matter if it is not balanced or just weak. If they make Infantry very powerful and by this they will force us to buy more ugly models – people like me will just turn their backs on the system created… Read more »
Infantry will be necessary since it is the only unit type that can secure buildings and thus fulfill mission objectives.
In combat it will be pretty useless (unless it’s in a fortified position like a building or a bunker).
Cheers! 🙂
That Command Kodiak looks cool.
Finally, some actual alien looking aliens for this game. Was beginning to give up hope they’d be all bipeds – the razorworms look pretty nice. I like that the undersides look like they have a massive row of teeth! way cooler and alien than the boring bipeds I saw before.
I don’t usually say this but…TAKE MY MONEY!
I don’t really understand. These models look amazing – the scale, as I understand it, makes “realistic” or “detailed” tiny miniatures impossible. These look pretty much the best you can do at that scale, and they look excellent. The painting REALLY helps, hat tips to all involved!
I gotta agree (aesthetics aside), I could not sculpt 10mm to be that detailed and I have tried 6-10mm stuff numerous times too. I actually find these more impressive knowing they were handsculpted. And yes, in 6mm things have to be exagerated more to be able to get the details in, while 10mm gives you just enough space to get more realistic proportions in. I think he went with the “best” scale for large scale warfare really as it has the best of both worlds.
My only worry hear is learning how to paint at this scale (the entire range, not just the troops). It looks tough and will require some new skills. The models are too good to give a shabby paintjob.
At least for 6mm infantry, i actually find it -easier- as you can get things to look good with just drybrushing and washes for the most part.
I wonder if those Firstborns also have a face where their crotch should be 🙂
That command vehicle has got an ‘Aliens’ apc look to it I reckon, pretty nice.
I think that Sirens don’t really work in this scale but others are rather good small infantry.
the waiting its killing me stunning models almost better then gw but 10mm
i think the united colonies of mankind are a great choice for this scale and i will want some soon
