The whispering on the Warseer forums are the contents being thus:
1 Dark Angel Captain (Belial?)
10 Space Marines
5 (Deathwing) Terminators
3 (Ravenwing) Bikes
1 Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer (Fallen?)
5 Possessed/Chosen
20 Chaos Cultists
1 Chaos dreadnought
Mostly the rumours argue if a Dread is in there, some say its got both Chosen AND Possessed, but no Dreadnought.
I would question there being bikes in the DA army as GW already sell the RW boxed set seperately! I also don’t think it will be chaos marines…although that would fit all the fluff wonderfully! I think it will more likely be something like dark eldar. Who have been out for around 18 months now and so are very likely to be included in a new box set. I very much doubt they will release 2 “brand new” armies into the new box set. DA is a 100% inclusion (due to the new starter paint set having them) but they… Read more »
This morning l went to the GW site and the deathwing termies are no longer available
This meabs DW in box or finecast/plastic kit release
Nice info guys! Wouldn’t it be awesome if the box had Belial with his deathwing strike force against a group of chaos cultists/mutants/scum, all led by a Chaos spacemarine character who is possibly a fallen angel or maybe even Cypher! That would make for some great narrative games as the Deathwing cut their way through the chaff trying to take out or capture the enemy leader! I’d love that box set as I too began with Dark Angels! XD
Games-workshop is exectly doing what I want. About a month ago, I wanted to start a deathwing army, becouse I love terimantors (real terminators, not those shiny ones without hammers). So I would love it if this is true. And I would probably file off all the spiky bits of my chaos marines to get more regular marins :D.
I wouldn’t have thought they’d be doing more than one squad of terminators, after all the starter boxes are the loss-leader product. (I don’t know off the top of my head if they do make a loss, but I suspect so from the relative cheapness of the sets) Two squads of terminators is all most people run at 2000 points. Deathwing/Lysander-wing may be the exception, but I believe that GW will want people to have to buy additional boxed sets of tactical/terminators in order to field a full army of them. I think the above is most likely, with 5… Read more »
IIRC, Belial makes Termies count as troops, so you wouldn’t get an elite choice with this rumored content
I like the sound of it, to be honest, like Darrel I kind of think I’ll be buying a box for the little rulebook, because I’m failry sure the big one is going to be like fantasy 8th, 500 pages to a hernia
Ahaha! Having the Dark Angels in the set does fall in line with GW now selling their 40K starter paint set which has Dark Angels minis in it with moulded chapter badges in it. Sooo, seeing as they are in this starter paint set, perhaps it’s a precursor to them putting Dark Angels/Deathwing in the 6th Ed Starter box, and hopefully the new codex after it! 🙂 Seeing as this is the 25th anniversary of 40K, going back to the 1st Legion, nee chapter by doing DA marines in the stater box to commemorate the anniversary sounds like a great… Read more »
One day they’ll come out with Imperial Guard in the box set. As for now I’m glad that Chaos is getting some love as it seems almost every second novel they come out is about them.
One simple reason they won’t be doing an IG army in a starter box anytime soon…Tanks!
Hmmm can’t see the appeal of a chapter specific release – ok if you want DA but Imperial Fists, Ultramarines, Blood Angels etc etc …
… unless the first army books are going to be Dark Angels and Chaos Marines I suppose
that’s the general concesus…i myself would have liked eldar & tau to be honnest, would have made the most sense considering the urgency with wich these codecies need updating.
Hmmm I think that DA are incredibly overdue…there are so many reasons as to why…but one simple rule I can point out to you is Storm Shields. In all other codices SS are 3+ Save…in DA they are 4+! That my friend is a huge negative for any deathwing based army. And as you know, the codex overules any Main Rulebook Rule or Stat!
Storm shields are 3+ save for Dark Angels it was in the errata and faQs 1:1 quite a while ago
When did GW do named characters in the 40k box? I bought 2nd, 3rd and 5th and there was no named characters in those ….
i’m on to you BOW….ooooooh yes!
you know something we don’t, otherwise this series of videos wouldin’t exist…
i’ll bet my left…ahem, yes…you get the point 😛 deny it all you like, but i know the truth…
CONSPIRACY!!!
Well it’s pretty all but said that a certain retailer has given them stuff in advance.
Also being based in the UK (home of GW) rather than being “just another American blog” means they might have access to sources others don’t.
This rumor about Deathwing being starter box army is difficult to believe. It would require having Belial who is special character included as well becouse Terminators are normaly elite choices and so far no starter box has had any special charachters in it.
You are kind of right. Black Reach had Captain Sicarius as a character and Warboss Zanzag. The REAL question is, if Belial will be a simplified push-fit type miniature, or a full sculpt;)
Good news if your source is right, least of all I won’t have to track down the mini rule book as I would buy this box set. I have been waiting to increase my Deathwing but thought I’d wait for the new rules and codex to decide what weapons to give them. The prospect of cheap termies knocking about will be good as I picked up quite a few last time which when remodelled with the bits from the DA upgrade sprues look great. Belial yes please mine is looking a bit tired now Marines, I’m was going to paint… Read more »
let’s just go back in time here for a sec. what did AOBR have in it? – Space Marine task force including – 10 Tactical Marines, 5 Space Marine Terminators, a Space Marine Captain and a Dreadnought. – Ork warband including 20 Ork Boyz, 5 Ork Nobz, an Ork Warboss and 3 Deffkoptas. – Transfer Sheet – Pocket sized Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook – Getting started guide – Range rulers, templates and dice the next one’s gotta be similar, probably an HQ, a couple units of troops, a unit of elites & 1 fast attack or 1 heavy support per side…i… Read more »
deathangel has a point. The AOBR set could easily be mirrored in the new boxset with a couple of minor changes to fit the rumors BOW is sharing. Just make the deffkoptas into SM bikes, make the SM dread a CSM dread, and turn the orks into Fallen.
Contents could be 10 Tac Marines, 5 DW Termies, a Termie Capt (maybe Belial), and three SM bikes. on the chaos side you could get 20 Fallen, 5 CSMs, a CSM sorceror and a Chaos Dred. This would work out very close.
Can’t see it being Eldar since AFAIK all Aspect Warriors are Finecast ….. Dark Eldar vs ‘Nids maybe … I’m not familiar with Imperial Guard but could you fit a logical IG force in a starter box? Tau vs Orks? It’ll be interesting to find out 🙂
@kane Don’t forget Dire Avengers they are plastic Aspect and Troops
Dark Angels Eldar would suit me just fine
Aha didn’t realise that but a character, guardian, Dire Avenger mix would be a bit boring ….. but replace the Aspects choice with the much rumoured new jetbike ………. oh I’m drooling now!
I would love to see a named character in the box but I can’t see GW doing that. With the heavy focus on the new Finecast line they’ll probably put the termies in the boxset and force you to buy the Belial Finecast to field him. Means more $$ or quid for them.
It could be a generic terminator captain with a powersword and stormbolter, which is easy enough to proxy for Belial.
Just an idle thought.
How about a Deathwing command squad ? Not in the box set but a later release.
they’ll probably make a termie box with bits to make either a regular squad, an assault squad (hopefully) or a command squad…kinda like the grey knight terminators/paladins.
Could be bad news overall. If they are Dark Angel specific models, and well detailed then you WILL get a MASSIVE price tag attached to it. One of the joys of the recent 40K box set is they bring simple models that are easy to paint (for newbies, which is what the starter set is aimed at… duuuuuh) – models that those of us who don’t have a lot of money to throw around can pick up online/ebay and put together a little army. I sense GW will probably want to stop this saving grace. By making chapter-specific plastics they… Read more »
Deathwing!? Finally GW have a brain…man it’s gunna be like Space Hulk with Chaos!! 😀 CAN’T WAIT, please inform us more in future.
hold your piss there kiddo…none of this is confirmed yet…..then again, they do make it somewhat obvious
Why all the comments about the possible models in the new set being”beautiful” or such. Which model in the 5th edition set fits that description(aside from maybey the warboss). The strikingly static and boring Captain, or the Marines that all have the exact same pose. Hmm ?
What a weird thing to say. Firstly static is such a weird thing some people seem to define quality by. The 40K boxed set did produce high-quality miniatures that were simpler/easier to put together generally than the bought troop-specific box sets. They also had a lower price tag attached to them. It was literally a starter box set for people new to the game. I think I’m not the only one to mix the more “static” marines (via ebay) into the flexible multi-pose marines, to ease the wallet. Anyway your comments are, as with so many people here, 40K-centric. The… Read more »
If they wanted to do Chapter specific, well detailed minis they could release sets for Space Hulk – add in some tweaked rules for flavour and they’d make a mint plus they make an excellent foundation for a 40k army, while leaving the starter set as a fairly generic, flexible base … the good news if it is Dark Angels is that the none DA players will flood EBay with cheap minis lol 🙂
I would be happy with Dark Angels and Chaos Space Marines in the Starter box. Two cool starter armies in one box. If its true that special characters are in, than its double worth. I will get one (or two 🙂 ) starter. I also like the new rules. Comes back to 2nd Edition. This brought me into the hobby. And 3rd let me drop 40k.
Interesting box content possibility. Could be for nothing though by tiem price rise hits. Are BOW doing a vid on the thoughts in the new price increases?
as long as this is true and the models are not fail crap I may stop trolling GW
Just thought to myself, I’ll go on the internet and see what’s in the new box. Nice one BOW.
Marines vs Chaos is such a strong visual image and it’s what we all want. I would love to see some Chaos cultists. Strong work by GW.
7th edition I want Ad Mech and Squats vs. Genestealer Cult
Next ed. Fantasy I want Norse vs. Necromancers (a Necromancer on zombie dragon leading human skeletons, orc skeletons and dwarf skeletons)
GW – you can have those ideas for free.
