Mirliton’s Menacing Menagerie of Monsters
May 15, 2012 by dracs
Mirliton have released a whole selection of fantasy beasties with which to stock up your dungeons.
From cockatrice to big, anthropomorphic bears, Mirliton are sure to have something to send roaring towards your friends adventurers in the darkest depths of the dungeon.
Surprisingly the sculpt I like the most is the Giant Rats.
These rats look like the perfect scuttling addition to many games and would make a great part for a diorama.
Do any of these monsters in particular leap out at you? Are you looking for anything in particular lately for your dungeon games?
Very ‘old school’ sculpting style on these a bit like Otherworld’s D&D line – I’m guessing they might be re-releases. The rats are my fave too and could see use in a Skaven army as well as RPG stuff (post-apoc or D&D, they could be mutated to be that size) but I also like the Naga (as its tilted head suggests it’s thinking, perhaps trying to outwit adventurers at riddles rather than just attacking) and Gargoyle (which would be great in pairs as statues for the outside of a fantasy castle’s walls in a diorama).
Defenetly there is old school sculpting style in these. Some of them are even rather weird looking like Ruster Beast and Tasmanian Devil.
The Naga looks good.
Those make Heroclix look good.
To say those miniatures look retro would be erroneous..they are retro. I bought that painted golem guy back in the late 80’s! Hope they’re not trying to pass that stuff off as new.
They sell recasts of the old Grenadier miniatures. This stuff is old school.
Thankfully, progress has been made.
If you’re looking for the GOOD old Grenadier models, the ones Sandra Garrity sculpted (Reaper), Johny Lauck has the rights to most of the models. He has a huge selection at Discount Hobby, an Ebay store, and sells metal figs for $2.00.You can negotiate a deal on bulk orders too.
