The Ancient wargaming world is something I have been mildly interested in over the years. Some of you will know I prefer my Dark Age warfare, but this new Assyrian Chariot from Warlord Games for Hail Caesar is a pretty special piece...
Not only is the model complete with action both within the cabin and in front on the horses but its painted very, very well. A great looking model that would be brilliant in a solid regiment ready to bear down on the tightly packed regiments of infantry within the Roman Empire.
Historically the horses are very well armoured to provide a heavy battering ram at the front of the chariot. This then allows the archer aboard it to send arrows into the enemy ranks without fear of stopping dead.
Back to playing Rome: Total War for me...

Chariot itself has relatively simple design so it dosen’t have so many details while crew has some nice detail. How ever I don’t really like how those horses look.
It’s a proper ancient tank – a big solid mobile box with a turret in the form of the archer. I like the shield guys especially as they’re holding them high to guard against arrows, great narrative.

Might be difficult given that the Assyrian empire was hundreds of years dead by the time Rome was around.
I live in hope Beasts of War will get a historical piece right one day…..
Cheese on wheels. I used to wargame with an Assyrian bow army years ago.
If Darrell ever takes up Ancient wargaming this is the army for him.
