I like flamers a lot, very useful against Nids. I always took them in 4th ed, not sure if they’re any better/worse now for any reason.
Flamers rock… And you can make some fun things with wound allocation. For example you can kit every model in the unit differently too get a tactical advantage.
I thought that you could only allocate one wound to each model from a template, but Darrel said you can even allocate a couple to one. Clarification, please?
The ONLY time you can “stack” wounds, is if there are more models than wounds being allocated. 5 models, 6 wounds, 1 model receives 2 wounds. Before you can allocate multiple wounds to a model, EVERY model in the unit must receive 1 wound.

Thanks for this video tip. Could you explain the wound allocation shenanigans that can happen with Wolf Guard and Nobs? I just cant seem to wrap my head around why you would want to make every Guard or Nob slightly different. (Which is a real shame as I ‘play’ Space Wolves…..not very well mind you)
By having a unit where every model is equipped differently, you can allocate wounds to whatever model you desire, due to wounds being grouped to like models. In a Nob Biker or Wolf Guard unit, where every model is equipped differently, you can allocate wounds to specific models, so the ones you want to survive, aren’t wounded. The reason why this is a big thing with Nob Bikers, is that they have 2 wounds each. So, whenever the unit received wounds, the controlling player could allocate them throughout the unit, to keep it alive longer. It’s a power gaming trick,… Read more »
Normal wound allocation does one wound at a time. So if you had multi wound models like nobs and they were all the same, then say someone hit you with 2 melta shots… The nob has two wounds and is T5, so you would loose one nob. But, if they were all different, you can apply one wound to one nob, and a second wound to another nob, taking two wounds, but keeping your unit intact. Conversely, if a guard squad caused 6 las wounds and 6 plasma wounds to a 6 man marine squad, the marine would be able… Read more »
Actually, a melta gun would instant kill nobz and you would kill two nobz with two shots. Nobz are T4.
Yeah. Melta hurts. But otherwise the post is valid. If the wound doesn’t instagib you then you can start your wound allocation shenanigans.
Too true, damn those nob bikers! 😀
I think, if youve got a squad of nobs, you can choose which ones die but you cant reduce the whole squad to 1 wound each, you must kill them off one at a time. I thought only 1 nob can have 1 wound left at a time. Normally you dont want to take all the saves on your independant character so I havent seen it done before so I dont know, but normally wound allocation is there so that if everyone gets hit at least once, each person takes at least 1 wound, and if 5 guys are hit… Read more »
Well you gengear your nnobs differently to allocate wounds, and after a turn you can have nobs with one wound left each. The composition of such unit might be like this: get 3 nobs with a powerklaw, one with a bosspole, one with the Waaagh! banner, one with attack squig. Then you get 3 nobs with a big choppa and repeat the other upgrade. Maybe get rid of the Waaagh! Banner and give it something else as it’s almost useless. It’s cool to keep more bosspoles, because your unit willekeep the Ld reroll longer. Theen you can buy some regular… Read more »
You have to allocate the wounds before saving.
BRB says you have to allocate unsaved in order to kill one first. But this only goes IF the models are identical.
So all different models could lead to many models with varying live points.
I dont like the idea of having a squad all geared up differently confusing and a little close to cheating, unless you are in a tournament then dont do this – people WONT like you, however ina tournament i prsume EVERYONE would do this as it is all about the win in them (i dont know never been to one)
but yeah every model gotta take one wound then every model gotta take another so you cant have one guy hit 3 times and everyone else hit once . . . for a better explanation see @newtofdeath
The main point is: You’ll always choose which wounds go where, but have to allocate wounds to every model
