You’re Never too far from a Veer-Myn…
March 17, 2012 by brennon
The lovely chaps at Mantic Games have shown off some more shots of the Veer-Myn race that will be pitted against the Corporation in Project Pandora. Check out a squad of these space vermin below and see what you think of them...
These Veer-Myn in particular are called Night Crawlers and live in the bowels of ships, cities and practically everywhere else you can think of. Adapting weapons from other civilizations the Veer-Myn can make the most of every situation, which makes them a deadly enemy to be facing.
Should be pretty fantastic to see the Veer-Myn and Corporation facing off in the tight confines of Grim Cargo.
What do you think of the Night Crawlers?

The models look good on the white but yellow rats on a mostly yellow board sorta strains my eyes trying to find them- its really only a problem in the pictures, but its still annoying.
I like the look of the guns and the torn up hazmat suit look, but none of the models seem to be actually aiming or firing the guns, and the angles of the guns in the hands would suggest that it will be difficult to build them as such.
i like the look of of the models a lot but i dont like the yellow paint scheme and yes the guns look amazing 🙂
Those are good looking models.
like these 🙂 now mantic, release these for KoW as well and call them Veer-Myn as well 😛
Nah, they’ll be called Mouseketeers! lol
I like the over all look of the rats. Much more so than I first seen the green of them. The idea that some hazmat suit group that got some how infected is unique.
I rather prefer more dull dreary battleship grey paintjob myself for the tiles. Looking forward to the game
In the write up for Project Pandora: Grim Cargo they explain why the ship is brightly colored. If memory serves, the old ships were painted bright colors to keep the crew chipper during long space voyages. Also, much of the normal ships wires, and fuse boxes were covered to keep the happy feel of the ship (by the way, I can see this happening with all of the designers/psychologists working together). Of course, this leads to trouble as the Corporation will have a tough time finding the night crawlers who plague the ship. Great concept, amazing sculpts. Mantic Games is… Read more »
or is it Ocean grey?
Looks like they are based on the orx maruaders, just added big claws for the limbs and a new head.
sorry you’re completely wrong. it’s a different sculpter and design team. 100% different models, imagery and concept. brilliantly executed. cant wait to see the model for the night-spawn and the second unit type released in may.
I’m giving them fuzzy mouse tails and painting them a nice soft pinkish. Like my Night Crawlers cute and deadly.
A new board game to play is always welcome however: They don’t look very rodent to me. They look more like dog monkeys faces, similar in sculpt design to the GW skaven releases around 2000ish. Was never a fan of that look. As for the board, it looks like its just butted up square sections rather than space hulk style jigsaw cut connectors. Good luck with the rooms and passageways sliding around during play. Perhaps when it’s released small design quibbles like this will be solved.
hated that look for the skaven, they all looked like hunchback dog mutants .. really a downgrade from the previous metal releases, wich still look the best imho.
Dont think these are quite as dog-like though 🙂
I have the original Dwarf Kings Hold. They don’t slide around.
They make these games as cheap as they can release them, so that the price tag can be as low as is sensible. I’ve not had any problems with their past released.
I think the board looks horrible …its just too colourful. and has too many different thees going on its like that ship is made out of scrap or had different designs for every section. And concerning the models I know its been said a lot of times by me but I am still disappointed what mantic does. I always just simply see them copying stuff GW did and giving it another name. Dont get me wrong the sculpts overall are good, but no matter how much I try to stop it, I cant get rid of the feeling that this… Read more »
thees = themes
Right, like GW came up with anything all that unique to start off? It took them quite a while to make much of anything with a unique style. Much of their 1980s stuff was characterful, but nothing all that unique. In fact, they were the biggest Lord of the Rings knock off artists when they began. However, over the years and with their books and various sculptors they have created a solid lore with stylish models. Mantic’s new sculptor, Remi, is amazing and his figures deserve notice: http://remytremblay.sculpture.over-blog.com/ Mantic creates models for their own game AND for others (big lean… Read more »
as I said ^^ I have nothing against the sculpt itself (all sorts of respect to Remi for that ^^ ) still two former employees that ragequit GW and now happen to make a whole lot of games were EVERY SINGLE race is the same like in GWs products …come on 😛 …. there are tons of people out there doing innovative stuff ( take privateer press, or the Infinity guys) where thought and time went into making it distinctive and new, mantic isnt simply part of that circle of people ^^ and now bring in some more negative karma… Read more »
oh btw I dont care much that its actually GWs stuff they are ripping of if they would come up with lets say …a steampunk universe, where giant magic and steam power battlemechs and warcasters fight battles …oh sounds familiar ! …I would give the exact same speech ^^ …I dont care for GW in particular but the fact that I simply dont like to see people getting through with such behavior, like taking someones idea and having success with that. not necessarily speaking about the fact that every single race is basically the same …no, but its also their… Read more »
agree on the board, what came to mind when i saw it first was “disco i space!” …
Actually the board looks fine, it makes a nice change from battleship grey future you always see, and it’s different from space hulk colours, which is what I think was possibly the intention.
These modes look great actually. Bit surprised. I would have preferred a wild-card original alien, but these are pretty sweeet.
As always, it’s the rules that matter. I think we’re in safe hands though.
Kings of War and Warpath have, imo, quite poor rulesets (early days though) but Mantic are slowly building up money and a brand which will allow them, one day, to expand into brand new races etc (it would be stupid for them to do this now for the aforementioned reason). It’s tiring and just boring listening to people cry over Mantic not releasing a brand new race at this stage of their development. Let’s pretend they released a brand new race that was actually good… then what? FAILURE on a massive scale. Maybe even financial disaster. I don’t see many… Read more »
“And Mantic sell their models for PEANUTS, yet still people complain?” Simply not true anymore, with their newer releases they mostly reached GW pricing level in some cases they even are worse then GW (sorry using GW again but those are best to compare with as they are mostly equal in size – when it comes to the number of models per box – and do have the same playable races)- small example 40 Goblins from GW = 41£ = 1.025£ per miniature http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod840895 +you are able to assemble them as spearmen, with hand-weapons or bows, whereas the Mantic ones are… Read more »
Your knowledge of Mantic is quite limited and the price is still quite good compared to GW’s models. You picked a rather silly example of Goblin Spearmen. It has been stated by Mantic’s brass (Ronnie) that the Goblins were released in metal as a special edition to get the figures out quickly. Metal is very expensive now and that lead to the high price….BUT the Goblins will be released in plastic this summer, with proper plastic sprues from the core troops, and the Spearmen in resinic. Twilight Kin are expensive, but again, with them and Abyssal Dwarfs (and any metals)… Read more »
i think mantic are doing well and just need to carry on how they are. at the end of the day the models look great. that is all i need. KOW is now my fantasy wargame of choice. warpath needs more work, it will get there though. the next new edition of the rules isn’t that far off now, and i look forward to seeing how it plays.
You’d think that a race in a future setting could wear better things than rags.
mutated rat with freakin lasers isnt enough future setting? 😉 maybe they are still very animal in nature and feel locked up wearing armour? 🙂
