Studio McVey’s Latest Sylvan Beauty
February 27, 2012 by dracs
Studio McVey have released a new limited edition resin sculpt for you to send flitting through the trees of an elven forest.
This Elven beauty is Ar-Fienel and is available to buy now from Studio McVey's Store.
While some of the proportions seem a little off, all in all I think this is a rather nice mini which really creates a flighty almost ethereal sense to the figure. She would definitely make a great hero for a Wood Elf force, as well as being a welcome addition to any group dungeon exploring adventurers.
What are your opinions on this sculpt? Are you impressed by it, or do you think that it is flawed? Leave us a comment below.

Amazing.
I like the look of this real thin elven archer. It has an almost alien look to it as if it’s not of this world.
Right on the money. The sculpt seems to give a nod more to the original elvish mythology of the medieval Norse and Germans than to the romanticed versions of the later centuries. Anyway, great stuff.
Check out the hair too – made up of intricate little vines and leaves. Lovely way to show the kinship with nature.
That is such a great model. It’s a treat to see elves depicted as more than just humans with pointy ears. It drives me bonkers that they keep releasing there models in limited runs though, a wonderful sculpt like this should easily sell itself without needing to make it limited.
I think this slender and otherworldly type of elf was what mantic was going for at first when they made their elf ranges, they just didn’t have the same kind of sculpting staff at the time as studio McVey have.
ltd edition sucks- if your short of money or have other priorities right now it is frequently sold out by the time you get round to picking it up
I liked the thin look Mantic went for
so basically @dais +1
Am short of money and have other priorities so I know what you mean.
Still might get one though because of the ethereal look mentioned above and cos I don’t have any armies to build anymore 😛
Now THAT is a fine cast resin piece 😉
While I don’t think this is quite as impressive as their previous version of this character it is still without a doubt an utterly stunning sculpt.
it’s beautiful … it’s a shame the arrow nocked is oversized compared to the slenderness of the rest of the model
=(
my thoughts exactly 🙂 maybe she’s hunting giants?
So nice… until you get to the broom handle arrow and comically large bow.
The arrow is a bit large, but then I suppose it has to be otherwise it would be impossible to cast it. It would be very easy to replace with a pin or needle if it does indeed look far far too big upon seeing it up close though.
I don’t have a problem with the size of the bow though. It doesn’t touch the ground so the length is okay and thickness/shape wise it’s some weird elven design, possibly even grown into that shape, so that doesn’t seem like a problem to me.
yeah bow looks fine to me too ^^
it’s probably hard to make the bow and arrow better then that, but the elf is so thin …
I converted an IG Pistol last year for a 32mm sculpt I am working on.
By the time I had carved the grip and everything else down to a suitable size there was not a whole lot of gun remaining. But then being heroic scale everyone in the grimdark has hands perfectly proportioned.
AFAIK She is a fairie with a magical long bow.
Must be the easiest of conversions if the arrow size offends, and a lot simpler than replacing missing details from certain casting process. 😉
