Black Dragon Pikemen Upgrade from Privateer Press
January 24, 2012 by beerogre
Check out the new Black Dragon Pikemen models from Privateer Press.
This is an upgrade kit so you're going to need an Iron Fang Pikemen box before you can make the unit... plus you'll need the Officer and Standard Bearer UA blister to make the officer.
As the owner of an unassembled box of Pikemen (I don't play Khador, but my little brother uses all my stuff... typical eh?), I'm fortunate enough to have bought these guys from a local shop at a fantastic knock down price. If any of you know these models, you'll know they have a reputation for having badly (and easily) bent pikes that really need replaced with brass rods.

Personally, they were the unit I was hoping would be transferred to plastic/resin pretty quickly. Even if the pikes still bend... at least you can fix them more easily.
The stats for the Black Dragons are available in this month's No Quarter Magazine.
I know what you mean Andy. I hate poles and weapons that never stay the way they where intended. It might seem small but it always robs the model of some might that they should convey.
I am liking look of those.
I don’t like those…
More nondescript warriors with shoulderpads so large you’d think they’re out of a giant Kinder Egg…
They also have bendy polearms. And this time, for extra fun, they have shields with the second most common fantasy banner symbol of all time (after the skull) : A dragon.

As to the pikes themselves, everyone I know just cuts off the ends and replaces the shaft section with hollow brass rods. Then they become almost indestructible.
Waaay back in NQ1 there was an article about the Khador Black Dragons. Over the years, there have been article on how to make your own, involving alot of sculpting on the shields, and whimpering cries from the motherland that these uberkewl figs were nowhere to be found. Finally, they have arrived… I dont think they will have special rules (yet) or really be anything different the Ironfangs.. but for those members of the Khadoran regions, its the backstory that makes these guys who they are. I really enjoy Romains perspectives (weird – even brought up his fantastic color tutoruial… Read more »
