1st Edition D&D Reprints for Gygax Memorial Fund
January 20, 2012 by brennon
With Dungeons & Dragons moving into its newest edition over the next year or so, this is your chance to have a part of history.
For those of us not lucky enough to have been around for 1st Edition D&D, Wizards of the Coast and the Gygax Memorial Fund is reprinting the three main rule books with original art and content but with amazing new covers. Sales of these books will all contribute to the memorial bust of Gygax set to be placed in Lake Geneva, WI.
Check out more information on the reprints here.
So do you think you will purchase this set of 1st Edition books?

How totally cool is this! I’m thinking these are the 77,78,and 79 releases. It would be cool if they released a few of the classic original modules as well, and also the original Chainmail. When you think about it Chainmail is actually the grand daddy of both Table Top Fanatasy and Role Playing.
They really should mention Arneson too. The feud is over.
Yes I’m one of those young ones that never had the first books. That is until about 15 years ago, I got my hands on one from a donation to an animal shelter I helped. (We got all sorts of odd things even thou an animal shelter would never use them) I flipped threw it and put it back in the box. At that time I had no care for such things. Today I wish I took it, even just to read.
gosh ‘5th’ ed looks even less inviting now this is out….
If only the memorial fund used the income on something meaningful, like supporting young talented artists, or providing relief to underprivileged or hospitalized children through gaming.
Gygax will forever live on in his work and everything inspired by it, and I can’t help but wonder, given the choice between a statue and the chance for his influence to do something good in the world, what the Man himself would rather see.
I think we build statues for ourselves, not for the dead.
Rant off.
OK, according to Gail Gygax “Gary wanted a memorial, a bust of him to be set in a location in Lake Geneva. A place for his fans to come visit.”
My argument is void.
I hope this gets a UK/worldwide release as at the moment the WOTC website seems to indicate lts run USA only release. 1st ed ADnD is the best IMO
Ltd run (stupid finger failz)
One would hope they do allow this to be sold worldwide. Would love to get my hands on this set.
