Good Job Andy. Why not actually demo some reactions and results? It seems like the main benefit to reacting is stealing overall army initiative? In that case my guess would be that as you say, you always want to steal initiative as early as possible, but then of course your opponent could steal it right back? It seems to me that if you are not careful, initiative could swap back and forth in a rather haphazard manner.
