Reporting from the Warpath Trenches
November 12, 2011 by brennon
So Twitter failed me as a means of uploading pictures! But I bring you lots of images of what's going on today below from the Mantic Games Warpath Launch Event...
As you would imagine a lot of Warpath stuff is on sale today, plenty of the big box sets and small blister packs for the Forge Father and Marauder Hero.
Kings of War is also making an appearance. Plenty of the blisters, box sets and Dwarf Kings Hold for people to purchase. And with the goody-bag coupon its pretty much a steal!
The guys with the minds behind the new resin terrain are also here, and I checked out some of their great pieces as well.
As you can see there, the hanger we saw a few days ago in all its brilliance. As well as that some extra pieces from them including the crates in the background and of course the massive and unmissable modular building pieces. You can build it high, low or however you want and they even have slide out glass so you don't get paint on it when making it.
Speaking of sliding things, those doors on the hanger...yep, they slide too.
Also a quick peek at the wrecked vehicles. As I mentioned to them, the detail is pretty great even for something that is going to be a wreck on the table.
The party style goodie-bag was pretty great too. Free sprue of some Forge Father miniatures to get you started on your Warpath journey.
There are also a lot of participation games going on, with plenty of amazingly well painted models.
But these Marauders have stolen the show for me at the moment, some great looking and indeed BLUE SKINNED Orcs!
Fantastic looking army and really shows what you can do when you put your mind too it, making something original in a new game. Maybe its made you think about what your going to do with your Marauders and Forge Fathers when you get them ready?
I have mentioned of course plenty of stuff on twitter that I just couldn't get pictures of I'm afraid! All locked away in the secret room, but take it from me the new Corporation, Kings of War and Dwarf Kings Hold artwork and models is looking amazingly good.
Will keep you updated throughout the day, and have more pictures for you soon!

Like those buildings
Blue skin?! That is a nice twist to the norm.
Maybe its really cold?
Do the goblins look more like the Sneek with leather armour and spears and sharper detail from being 3-ups as I imagine? They don’t look like the Mawbeast guy surely…that’s a Tremblay sculpt and he does metals for Mantic, not plastics…
The goblins look every bit as sneaky and backstabby as you imagine and more. Perfect little blighters.
Sweet. 😀
Yeah I hope to soon be getting my mitts on the Fate of The Forgestar starter set I won Whooooo! go BOW. p.s. if I wasn’t going on holiday tomorrow I would be Nottingham right now!
BTW I don’t see no blue skinned orcs, I see blue skinned ORXS!!!
Hey! it’s Marauder Smurf!
Seriously. I do prefer the blue skin scheme over the green ones we’ve seen in the stock photos. The models seem more suited to it.
Like the terrain, good generic high sci fi feel to it, rather than the gothic/ruined sci fi terrain were so used to. Will definitely pick up some of those crates and the modular building. Love the yellow painting scheme on the forge father army. Wish I could have made it to the open day. Cant wait to see pics of the corporation minis.
Nice work Ben!
Looked like a great day mate 🙂
Thanks Warren, yeah was a great day. Got a lot more pictures to upload tomorrow so watch out for them too. Plenty of up-close pics of the different paint schemes going on.
You survived a day in Nottingham, a feat in itself. A pity you couldn’t steal away a photo or two of the Cooperation, new Dwarf Kings Hold or Goblins…even if the pictures were fuzzy (because Ronnie and his brutes at Mantic tackled you for the violation of their leaking rights).
By the way, did the Forge Fathers still dominate?
As WarriorZan said, well done Ben!
They should make the female Orx to paint blue like those ladies I always dreamed of, er, being friendly with from Star Trek.
I did try and sneak a photo but the beady eyes of mantic staff were in the room of secrets lol. They are pretty awesome though, will pretty much describe them line for line in my next article anyway lol
Are the rule mechanics still based on I go you go? Was hoping for alternative unit activation or something more fresh ..
The rules seem to be the weakest aspect for Warpath imo, wich is sad because they got alot of stuff right after all …
cant wait to see some of the corporation
Rules go 1 player turn 2 player turn yeah – same as 40k etc. The rules are actually incredibly simple and fun and lead to a lot more narrative a battle than just a numbers crunch. Sure there is a lot of cheese in some of the units, but it all comes down to how you play and where you decide to get your units moving too. For example, I would say a game of Warpath needs a fair amount of terrain on the board. Now, the Forge Fathers are going to want to set up lots of fire lanes… Read more »
In the seminar I sat in on, someone asked Ronnie and Alessio about this. The resposnse they gave was that when they released the alpha/beta, it was to refine the ruleset they had for Warpath, not write everyone’s ideal ruleset. Sounded sensible enough to be honest, and nowadays the rules are actually doing very well in games. Oh and the corpers look amazing, very detailed and realistic to me. 😀
I am actually looking forward this release. About six of us have pushed the issue and our local store will be carrying this.
Orcs? Orx? They are MARAUDERS! 😉
Cheers for the kind words guys, much appreciated.
Indeed, superb painting!
