Scarabs are evil. You’ll see them with Spiders at tournaments.
Wraiths still have a 3+ invulnerable. If you check their wargear they have a phase shifter which means they still get that inv. save.
Wraiths + Whip Coils have an insane combo with a C’tan (Time’s Arrow)
Get the C’tan and a Wraith into Base to Base with a Deathstar HQ (Logan, Abaddon, Swarmlord, Draigo, etc)
The HQ is now Initiative 1, Use Time’s Arrow on that HQ, he has to roll a 1 not to die.
I am liking from fact that Heavy Destroyers are now fast attack thanks to being upgrades for normal Destroyers. It didn’t make much sense that they were heavy support before.
One thing you have to hate about GW is, why don’t they release a new codex with all the models ready instead of in waves?
Those jet bikes just sound all kinds of tasty 🙂
another way you can use wraiths is to counter long range shooting, like longfangs with rockets perhaps 😀 …. since necron shooting is relatively short range, they need to deal with people who sit back. Night fighting will help but not the best option. If you team up a unit of wraiths with someone with veil of darkness that will make them super maneuverable (consider a monolith as well). You can jump around and threaten your opponent from different angles forcing them to react. Oh and the Wraith save is invulnerable. What Canoptek units needed was a character that made… Read more »
@ Phatima
Nice idea but remember when a model takes a test like that its always against their characteristic statline not the penalty or modified version.
I like the heavy the destroyers, you need something that doesn’t always glance.
Darrel you can’t compare everything to SW which have some of the cheapest options (with GK)… Long fangs may be half price, sure. But a SM devastator with a lascannon costs 53 points for example… and so on 🙂 If everything in a codex is measured up against the best stuff you can think of, obviously only the one thing that is truly overpowered will stack up. Scarabs are definitely interesting… wondering how it will look in practice though. Probably pretty easy to take out before they do serious damage. And the smaller the squad, the bigger chance they wont… Read more »
Scarabs are beasts now so 6″ move plus fleet then a 12″ assault thats not exactly slow true they are no longer jetbikes but still.
Oh and It would only remove the armour save of multi wound models as it must cause a wound first. So rank and file stuff would just be dead.
not forgetting il be putting 5 new shiney jetbikes in a certain superfast transport 🙂
1. Remove Armour saves with Scarabs.
2. Unleash hell with high strength, high shot count Tesla weapons.
3. AP – no longer a liability.
4. ???
5. PROFIT!
It would only remove the armour save of multi wound models as it must cause a wound first.
i cant watch the video, it says “advertising playing” and that’s it. same happened yesterday and i had to wait a lot to watch the “troops” video. is this a bug or maybe some issue with my flash player or…? cheers
The problem with the wraith’s weapon that slows models in base contact is that the models in the second row still get to hit first. I would not be worried about charging a full squad of Striking Scorpions in two lines into a full squad of wraiths. Half the scorpions would put a good number of the wraiths back to bed. When the wraiths hit back I take the models that have attacked off as casualties and the rest of my squad gets to hit them. It would not work very well against orcs or nids who have very large… Read more »
My understanding for Canoptek Wraiths, Scarabs and Spyders not having Reanimation Protocols, is that they are not Necrontyr – they’re simply robots, where the Necrons used to be alive. That’s the narrative anyway.
yeah they’re ‘constructs’ in the book I think, so it makes sense.
In the fast attack sections the winners for me are the Scarabs and the Tomb Blades. The Wraith with whip coils are quite expensive, but they seem to be a solid choice. The issue with them is that they have no power weapons. So maybe you should team them up with Triarch Praetorians (who are also jump infantry and have S5 power weapons). The only issue here is that the Praetorians would love to assault first so that they can get a round of shooting prior to the assault. But then the Wraiths might have a harder time to get… Read more »
I dunno, if I remember correctly wraiths with coils are same pts as lychguard with shields. Going first makes all the difference, they’re more manoeuvrable and they’re rending so some attacks will ignore armour so at str6 I don’t think lack of power weapons is too bad. I think they’re the best assault unit in the book. I do agree with you otherwise too
Wraiths have Phase Shifters = 3+ invulnerable save. 🙂
