I just put him together and i found it easier in finecast than if it was metal.
Finecast is lighter, so it’s easier to stick together because the glue doesn’t have to work as hard.
However, once again, there are bubbles that need to be filled.

Some pretty nice details and although most Necrons look alike there is some individuality. I think though GW are hoping it has been long enough since Stargate SG1 for people not to notice too much of a similarity between the cloaks and the replicators. I actually quite like the finecast stuff as it usually sticks together easier than the metal equivalents and can be cut reasonably easily for modification. I used him in my first match to great effect. It was against Imperial Guard, and there was night fighting for 6 turns before the game ended. The lightning can really devastate an army. I brought along 6 destroyers, all they did was destroy a weapon, while the lightning destroyed 4 tanks by turn 5. His infantry was heavily battered as well, and had to take a leadership test just off the damage from the lightning. Stormlord makes Doom Ark usable as it allows you to get it into position more safely thanks to making battle night fighting and then lifting it when Doom Ark is ready to fire.
My Imotekh doesn’t look so good, it’s okay as I was thinking of having him damaged slightly. I hate working with finecast though, you have to position everything carefully as it glues so quickly and evertime I’m trimming or cutting it feels like a bit is about to snap off. It’s also a lottery as to whether you get a good casting or a bad casting. We know by now you don’t like finecast. Hell I don’t like finecast.
But hearing it in EVERY video is getting really old, can’t it just be a review of the model itself without dragging the same old discussion in to it each time?
Whilst I agree to some extent, I think Darrell is correct to keep mentioning his dislike at Finecast. Its because people are often so sold into GW, they won’t take the time to really look at the weaknesses of this new product line. Whilst GW are unlikely to listen and make changes, other manufacturers can see the problems it has caused within the gaming community (due to consistent faults and prices well above what they should be) and will make headway to not alienate their fan base.
So I say until GW starts listening to their fans, the criticisms should continue.
@shadowbreed … I understand what you mean. Darrell has told me at length of his disappointment with the Finecast Necrons. As I mentioned in a previous thread, he is a Necrons fan… it was his first ever 40K army! I told him to tell fans the truth. There’s no point in telling people that you really like something when you don’t that’s not what BoW do. We would prefer not to show something that we really don’t like, it wastes your time and ours. Pretty nice looking models I have to say. I quite like these new Necrons with a bit more personality.
So again I was really enjoying this video because it seemed to fix everything that was wrong with the Overlord video then at about 4 minutes he starts crying about finecast again. Meh.
As for the character I can’t wait to drop my new Necron army.

I’ll join you in your campaign Darrell to bring back metal. I’ve got something like 80 metal aspect warriors I’m used to the stuff I dont mind it coz I know it’ll hold together. As a side project I started a DE wych cult and got two finecast succubi, the tassels on both their weapons fell off from just looking at it. As you said that cloak just won’t last that long. You could try using a hair dryer to heat up the finecast to reshape it, that’s how I fix my forgeworld stuff though Finecast might be slightly different,… Read more »
I’ve filmed a Backstage video where I fixed some Privateer Press plastic/resin (which this Finecast stuff is almost the same), some hot water is all it takes. However, the fix doesn’t always work and if the model goes near any sort of heat, it’ll bend back to the original shape. I managed to pick up most of my (soon to be assembled) Eldar Army from a charity shop. My eagle-eyed wife spotted them and I picked up a full unit of each of the Aspect Warriors (in metal) and Eldar Rangers for £15 for the lot! After spotting the recent… Read more »
A lot of people will argue that, hot water – green stuff etc etc will remedy any finecast problems, however why should we have to do any of the above seeing as were paying a premium price for the supposed best models money can buy??
I have had no problems with finecast and the only people that I know personally who have had any legitimate complaints bought online. I have been lucky enough to have a GW about a 20 minute drive away from where I live so all of the finecast stuff I have gotten they let me inspect and pick parts from different boxes until I am happy with it, even going so far as to inspect the stuff with me and point out flaws that I missed. True, fincast has been having less and less problems. I have bought some, and, while I’ve had good surprises and I’ve bought it because some of the figures were actually nice, it has been… Hit and miss. Which is unfortunate for a product you sell to a younger, captive gaming audience at premium prices. Most of all, the detail and quality of the sculpts isn’t what you’d expect from a material such as resin… It’s much, much lower. I am not disputing that. The product is still often… well… crap, and yea you definitely make a good point with the fact that the product is often times being sold to younger kids with a less than perspicuous eye for detail. I just wanted to comment that, at least from my experience, GW’s sales staff has done a good job of handling the issue.
So really you have had problems but being able to open multiple boxes and pick the good bits out means you ended up with a decent miniature 🙂
Yea basically… I mean, I have to be honest. If they didn’t allow that then yea, the bubbles and the missing corners and other such annoyances are frequent enough to where I would definitely be pretty pissed. Although to be fair, I do play a mostly Nurgle… so on occasion I have actually preferred some of the finecast screwups. =)
I totally agree with Darrell on this one. How can you ignore the inferior quality of finecast and pay more money for it. I think it should be highlighted in each and every model review, should we just accept it? If we do we are mugs. Metal is far superior to finecast, it is much more robust, essential for models used for wargaming that experience knocks every now and again. Give me a very slight loss of detail instead of missing parts due to air bubbles and the thought that bits of your model will snap off if you touch… Read more »
I agree with all the finecast hate. Hell, even the GW painted model has a bent staff (very evident on the 360 rotation). Costs more for a model made of cheaper material with casting flaws. What are they playing at?

Frankle I am getting sick and tired of failcast. Getting my new Necrons I have no option other than finecast. I have yet to find anything straight out of the box, I am unable to check before as I use and support my LGS and have to get them at a discount to be able to afford them. I just don’t understand why we all put up with it? Beats me. I sure don’t put up with it : I don’t play these games. I only buy one or two minis when I feel like they’re good enough for me to paint.

I’m more like that myself, I tend to enjoy the converting/modelling aspect more and I will buy something if I like it. I won’t buy finecast though – I don’t wish to go through the returns and waits simply because it would be too stressful for me and I can’t exactly go to my local shop wheather I want to or not (housebound due to agoraphobia!) – but regardless of all that, no one should have to put up with that kind of rubbish anyway especially not for something so expensive (we arent all made of money either!).
I wish that was the case but if you play the game, you have little to know option. All HQ choices and most of the “Good” (in game terms) units are now Failcast and over priced. That’s just the way they work and we have to put up with it if we want to play. I realy wish they would see a serious drop in sales due to Failcast and high cost in replacing badly produced minatures. There are other games out there, with excellent mechanics (better than the aging warhammers, in the opinion of many), growing communities, and better, cheaper minis. Some are reaaly good, even amazing.
In fact, we cover a lot of them… You’re in the right place to check some out !

And by the way, even without the quality issues… Finecast was never a revolution.
Fenryll did it all (GW aesthetics included) twenty years ago, and pretty much eeveryone has been using resin and perfecting the technique since then.
It’s rather concerning that Mantic have put out plastic resin kits with no trouble, as have Privateer Press, and probably a few others, and all without the apparent quality control problems GW have encountered.
How does the biggest game in town screw up so badly?

Horrible stuff, Finecast. The Imotekh model in the video was short a whole finger and part of the staff-head, and had a number of little flaws. On a premium priced figure, that should not be considered acceptable to ship from the warehouse.
I noticed that.
I managed to save most of mine, but I was worried it would break.
I like the model and the finecast issues have been already well discussed. I think Imotekh rules wise is really worth those points
I’m disappointed, Haven’t gotten to see any great shots of the bases. Relay would like to see some good shots on the bases.
If your only gaming venue is a GW store or you want to play in tournaments you’re pretty much stuck with finecast since you can’t proxy other makers minis if it was only special characters you could kitbash and use enough GW parts to get past that but with the Eldar aspects being finecast could you really see yourself kitbashing that number of figures – GW should make the move to plastic across the board, if they can afford the tooling for a limited edition boardgame they can afford the tooling for 40k
