Warlord Games Napoleonic Russian Infantry
October 27, 2011 by dracs
Warlord Games have released a new Napoleonic Russian Infantry unit suitable for 1809-1815.
These guys are early war Russian Infantry, with the regular infantry wearing taller shakos while the grenadiers wear more flamboyant plumes.
What are your thoughts on these? Will any of you pick up a set?

I have painted up 3 boxes of these they are great sculpts and very easy to paint
Just a small note in the spirit of the holiday; The creators of Ganesha Games’ Song of Drums and Shakos Nepoleonic skirmish rules and Fear and Faith, the horror skirmish game, reported of a demo cross project that saw Napoleonic soldiers fighting zombies on the backdrop of the Haitian revolution.
I think it would be fantastic to see some of these green-clad men go against werewolves or vampires (strigoy :)) in some Russian village, complete with a wooden church …
My only gripe with these awesome plastic sets is that only the flank companies seem to come with the optional shooting/loading poses that are more useful for skirmishing, while the vast majority of minis come with the muskets shouldered (which I can understand from the more massive use point of view).
That will mostly be because the Lank Companies were generally make up of Grenadiers, light infantry, or riflemen so would be doing the Skirmish type actions as opposed to the Centre Company that wouldn’t.
So, the box contents, pose wise, are pretty spot on.
Doesn’t make for great skirmish models I agree, but the boxes aren’t aimed at skirmish models. For that, skirmishes would be all about the Flank Companies anyway, so I’m not really bothered about that!!
Besides, I’d look at Perry Miniatures metals for skirmish models. Great range. 😉
No no, I can certainly appreciate the uniform posing from the historical point. It’s just that these plastic minis are perfect for customization and personalization, that can really show in skirmish games with less minis on the table.
