Nice round up.
I have to agree about the models, the man eaters are all great, the pirate one you mentioned is good, but for me the ninja is the best one.
Well I’d have to say they seriously underestimate the mournfang cavalry. You have a creature that has a ton of attacks and a 2+/6++. These guys can do a lot of damage and they’re survivable.
I believe you can get the fancy hats from Ye Olde Ogre Haberdashery.
Mournfangs are awesome in cc. Stop compairing them to Sabretusks. Mournfang cavalry with heavy armor & ironfists can take a lot of hurt, plus they hit like an avalanche!!
@robjohan They may well be good in CC, but the Sabretusks are just as effective, cheaper and don’t need any upgrades to make them “hit like and avalanche!”
I’m with robjohan Mournfang are terrifying and dangerous and a real threat, sabertusks are very easy to scare off and have no armour, and as a skaven leadership 4 means nothing to me and a plagueclaw catapult forces a panic check if they take a single wound as does scorch, I’m sure sabertusks are dangerous but in my opinion Mournfang are far worse!
Just spotted the Yetis hiding behind those ruins :p
Really the sabertusks probably aren’t going to win combat and with no armor are going to die easily to blocks of infantry. They’ll run easily unless they have a hunter with them. Now something they didn’t point out was that sabertusks are capable of being fielded as a single model. It’s kind of like the high elves and their eagles. Sabertusks are good throwaway charge blockers or warmachine hunters. I would not field a full unit of these and expect to get anywhere near the results of the cavalry. The sabretusks have nowhere near the same number of attacks.
They can bring out fanatics, also. And cause some stress for that ‘lone wizard’ skulking in a wood.
Fancy Ogre hats? How about absolutely any fantasy, sci-fi or historical 1:32, 1:35 or 54mm model, such as the thousands for sale on http://www.historexagents.com
Basically I agree with most of what was said bar thE Mournfang Cavalry. I thing they are the second best unit in special slot (slightly worse than Maneaters). Sabertusks are great, but I thing they have completely diffrerent role and usage. Mostly because of the 2+ save. A 3W cavalry with 2+ (and 6++ in combat) save is just going to survive so much more and with 4 S5 attacks, 3 S4 attacks, D3 S5 impacts and S5 stomp they are just incredibly killy for 70 points a piece. Oh and there is one thing better then scouting sniping Maneaters… Read more »
Sabretusks in single model units is the way to go IMO. Ld 4 means I’m not risking a unit of them. Unless my opponent has no shooting and little magic, Drawing out fanatics, redirect, charge small light cav units, artillery crew units. Character sniping etc etc is the way to go with these. As for mournfangs, I semi-agree with the vid, but for different reasons. I wouldn rather just take more base ogre bulls. For the same amount of points I can get more attacks, more wounds, ranks etc etc. Plus get a +1 strength spell off on the bulls… Read more »
Maneaters – BoOPs, sniper, poisoned attacks, and the BoEF … Can I have extra “cheese” with that?! Leadbelchers – They’re cheaper, and can fire after moving. They can’t “stand and shoot” for a charging reaction, so throw down small units of trappers around them. Sabretusks – You only need packs of 1. Why? A) Hunt down war machine crews and mess with missile units. B) Redirecting/baiting opposing units. C) Throw down during placement. You have the ability to mess up your opponent’s battleline this way, as they don’t know what to expect. You can easily laugh off the loss of… Read more »
