New Temple Dogs Guard The Way Of Rising Sun
February 13, 2017 by dracs
A new monster has stepped out of Japanese folklore for Cool Mini Or Not's upcoming game Rising Sun; the fearsome shrine guardian Temple Dogs.
Known in Japanese as the Komainu, these lion dog guardians are a common sight in Japan and many other Asian countries.
There are always two of them, one with its mouth closed, the other with its mouth open, together forming a syllable of Sanskrit, and they are responsible for scaring away evil spirits and impressionable tourists.
Cool Mini Or Not's take on these familiar figures of folklore is downright terrifying.
With its skin covered in writhing designs and the face being somewhere between a dog, a lion and a nightmare, I now see why these could scare away evil spirits.
What do you think of these models? Will you take part in the Rising Sun Kickstarter?

Oh this is very nice …. You know I am going to be torn between this and Warlord’s Japnese game. A really nice mini…. I know that this is more Chinese than Japanese but I’d be tempted to paint one as if it was carved from jade . I like this a lot
I want to know how they got it painted gold so well. The upcoming KS is going to be epic.
I’m pretty sure that is digitally done.
Those are really nice.
Love that , Very nice.
they would make great scenery for the table.
