Embrace The Winter With New Bolt Action Americans By Warlord
February 8, 2017 by brennon
Since we're still in the grips of the cold weather here in the UK it makes sense that we'd be seeing some more Winter US Soldiers for use in Bolt Action from Warlord Games. Leading the way on that front we have the US Winter Veterans Squad.
Looking like some serious heroes we have some soldiers here for your US force that would be great when playing out games in the Battle of the Bulge for example. Having been said to fight on until the last bullet they were the inspiration for many soldiers working their way up through the ranks.
You can't have an infantry assault without some support and that's where these other Weapon Teams come in from Warlord Games. A 50cal HMG Team would be a welcome bit of added supporting fire when your squad is moving through the thick snow.
If you're looking for something a bit more long range then how about the 75mm Light Artillery M1A1. Get this wheeled into position and it could be the way to oust those enemy soldiers from that house they've holed up in.
Things get bigger and nastier too as they also have a 105mm Medium Artillery M2A1 for you to use too. Now we're looking at some serious damage to the opponents defences.
Have you been tempted to dive in and play around with this wintery period of World War II during the Battle of the Bulge?

More good looking models for Bolt Action.
The Bolt Action range is really going great guns and this is no exception. I would probably get use out these in our K47 games, I like all the bulk of the jackets suggest several thick coats…(rather than one thin one ….. heh)
I love winter themed WW2 forces 😎
Those are no exceptions!
But why oh why no plastics as for the Soviets???
all vets from the Siegfried line?
Hmmm… dunno. I thought they should look better, given that they’re 28mm, AND metal. Maybe I’m being too picky.
I’m still undecided as to whether to go with 28mm Bolt Action, or 15mm Flames of War. 15mm seems the logical choice in terms of what you can field — and I love big battles — but I don’t really have a game real estate problem either. If I went with 28mm some of my medieval/fantasy terrain could pull double duty. Help!
Then there’s that whole Battlegroup Kursk thing… this may be an @oriskany question!
Go 6mm instead and fight REALLY big battlez
Do the Brits get winter troops, or did they just have the same uniform and a thicker vest underneath?
Brits had a mix of jackets and trenchcoats. Of course most people would use what they could get rather than freeze so you could do some head and weapons swaps on these guys and mix them with some converted Germans to do a British force. Yanks are getting them mostly because of the Battle of the Bulge since it was such an iconic and unique part of the battle
Winterised Brits would be wrapped up in the same way as the Americans (Greatcoats, scarves and balaclavas). However the webbing would be different from the German figs (and the rifles), so it would take a bit of work to convert them.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen any company do winterised commonwealth forces, it would be a nice addition to the warlord range (hint, hint). Also useful for doing some battle in Italy?
I love the idea of WW2 winter armies, but I’m torn between extremes- these guys to go up against my wintry Germans or some totally tropical US marines to fight my IJA…
