The Massive Medioevo Universalis Hits Kickstarter By Giochix
January 23, 2017 by brennon
Giochix is now on Kickstarter looking for funding as they bring the HUGE Medioevo Universalis board game to life. This is a massive hardcore tabletop board gaming experience...
The game plays with between three and nine players and takes between two and five hours to play. For gamers who have got stuck into the likes of Eclipse, Twilight Imperium or Through The Ages this might seem like a standard game time but this truly is rather immense.
Players will take control of one of the major powers during the Medieval period in Europe and control their fates as they trade, battle, scheme and explore their way to victory. The aim of the game is to accrue a number of Honour Points which can be gained by four different means whilst battling each other and Barbarian hordes.
You can gain Honour Points via
- Trade
- Advance Technology
- Diplomacy
- Combat
There's much more mixed in there too since you will also have to deal with barbarian invasions, natural disasters, calamities and even the influence of the Pope over your nation.
This looks to be a huge labour of love from the game designer and the rest of the team. The box is also packed with all manner of awesome looking miniatures too representing various ships, soldiers, siege weapons and more.
As mentioned above if you're into your big 4X games then this might be the next project for you to get stuck into. I love the idea of setting aside a day, getting into character, and enjoying this one!
What do you think?

Had this one starred for a 48 hour reminder since it went live 🙂
This is a definite wait for retail since they still haven’t provided a rulebook even though it was promised days ago. Too much money for an unknown product. Also, what’s with the rising pledge amounts? Could have got this for 40 or more Euros cheaper if you knew about it early enough?
Dunno. This one kind of smells funny.
“even if the campaign is successful, due to the cost and size of the game it will not distribute and will be very difficult to find the game in stores. Only here will you be guaranteed to get it.”
I think this is a one where you have to decide to risk the investment.
And there I was … thinking Mega Civilization was big *yikes*
As impressive as it is I must say this is one genre I prefer to play on my pc against AI.
Crusader Kings II would probably the equivalent computer game.
I think Europa Universalis IV would be more like it 😉
Holy cow…this has me tempted. I LOVE historical board/computer games and this one seems grand! But the strange pledge levels are…well, strange. I REALLY dislike the tiered pledge levels for the same amount of content. There seems to be FOUR pledge levels for the same amount of stuff with the cheapest at 159€ and the most expensive at 219€. That’s really uncool, especially since they haven’t even posted any rules yet.
it does look epic. once upon a time I would have gone nuts for this but now i’m more about once upon a time. on another day I might have jumped on just for its epicness alone but I was good all last year and then got cleaned out in the space of about a month right at the end. just spent way too much money to pick something up that doesn’t blow me away on every level. I would definitely like to play it and if I did i’d no doubt be wondering why I didn’t get it. he’s… Read more »
look very like a certain totally massive war game on PC?
I was discussing this one with my friends. We are looking to chip in together as its a price tag for a game that you may not be able to get enough friends interested in to play its full potential. Thankfully I’ve drummed up enough interest to make it worthwhile. Plus it may be of benefit for those deciding but are put off by the price tag, they do have a site (link of KS page) where they are running the campaign in parallel with KS however on this site there is the option to pay instalments with no interest… Read more »
89 euro for game with carboard tiles? no rulebook? is this a joke?
Now there is my kind of game. My very first wargame in 1983 was Avalon Hill’s Rise and Decline of the Third Reich, a lot like this except set in World War 2 (and hexes instead of zones).
