The Fall Of Cadia Comes To Warhammer 40,000 From Games Workshop
January 8, 2017 by brennon
Games Workshop has now added the characters and the new book for their Gathering Storm campaign to their website. Warhammer 40,000 is unlikely to be the same after Cadia falls!
The new book doesn't pull any punches. As the latest White Dwarf mentioned, Cadia WILL fall and it will be taken by Abaddon. However, how it falls and just what happens as the story unfolds is an interesting story worth telling. This could mark the start of a fascinating narrative for Warhammer 40,000.
Dramatis Personae
Of course, you can't have a big epic story without some major characters and that's where the Triumvirate of the Imperium come in.
Leading the way we're going to look at Beliarius Cawl who is a rather devoted member of the machine cult. He has taken himself to the very pinnacle of augmentation and is now certainly more machine than man.
"A massive Adeptus Mechanicus Archmagos, he is armed with a master-crafted power axe, arc scourge and refractor field, as well as featuring a mechadendrite hive and scryerskull."
In the story, we apparently meet him as he is ambushed by Orks while out at a dig site looking for an important relic. There's also something aboard his ship he doesn't want falling into the wrong hands.
Next up we're looking to Inquisitor Greyfax (no relation to Major Ceefax) who has been loosed from her prison by Trazyn The Infinite (yes, a Necron) to deal with the rising problem of Chaos assaulting Cadia and its neighbouring worlds.
"Clad in ornate power armour, she is a figure wreathed in shadow and fear, armed with master-crafted power sword and condemnor boltgun. She carries psyk-out grenades and wears the Psyocculum – the Eye of the Emperor."
Her armour is archaic and so are her weapons of choice. Still, she is a devout follower of The Emperor and has trouble dealing with the almost deified Saint Celestine who has returned in the name of The Emperor, or so she says.
Maybe the Necrons have another plan for her too. Why let her out after so many years within Trazyn's strange collection?
Lastly, we turn out attention to Saint Celestine who is my favourite model of the bunch.
More Sisters of Battle would be fantastic please Games Workshop, but this is a good start. Returning with her warrior angels she seeks to cleanse Cadia of Chaos and enact the divine will of The Emperor. Whether or not she truly can stop the tide of Chaos is yet to be seen but it would be great to see this story unfold.
Getting Started
Additionally, we also got a look at the new boxed set for the Deathwatch as a Getting Started force. This could be a good pick for someone cleansing Xenos filth as the Imperium is threatened at every side.
Led by Captain Artemis you have two squads of Deathwatch Marines and a Dreadnought to back them up when the going gets tough. They might make a good start for a larger army and a Kill Team.
Will you be taking part in the story as Cadia falls?

I want an all-flying sisters of battle army now. The arch magos is the most blanche model iv seen too, it’s weird and messed up – right up my street! Lady inquisitor is great too and I’m glad the head is swapable.
I just got a unit of Harlequins for Christmas, so I’m getting ready to get back into 40k when I get home.
Harlequins, world most terrifying painting project.
That tech priest is ridiculously cluttered. The inquisitor is more my thing, if still a bit busy.
Nice to see GW using some seemingly significant female characters for once. Last I heard of the sisters was about grey knights killing a bunch of them to use their pure blood as armour paint.
I think busy is fitting for an ancient Archmagos.
Blame Matt Ward :p
I’m not a gambling man but I would be willing to bet that I buy one of those Inquisitor models.
Like them apart from Saint Celestine which is an embarrassing step down. Simple, clean and lacking any detail or effort. The metal model was much better. Massive let down. Cheap and sparse.
The tech priest is a work of art, NOT cluttered seeing as everything there is logical given the lore.
Archmagos is absolutely amazing, inquisitor is nicely done and characterful. Saint I have no interest in, its technically fine just a bit dull. Bundled together its less appealing to my mind, you can resell but meh
Saint : it’s such a boring, flat, detailess model – bland as hell.
Archmagos looks like a mofo to paint but it’s exactly as the artwork depicts it.
Doves are a nice touch but I have to agree. The magos is that bat guano crazy grim dark majesty that made 40k in my view. I will end up with it.
Absolutely love the Archmagos. While I always liked the Admech models I felt they fell short of the descriptions in the novels. This is far more in keeping with the idea of someone that has completely discarded the idea of appearing human. Celestine is a victim of a bland paint job. She’s been matched to her two lady friends and it just doesn’t work. I’ll reserve my final verdict on her until after I see the community painters bring her to life. Watching @mage painting his AoS stuff has highlighted just how much better a kit can look sans dodgy… Read more »
Good point. Maybe with better hues it will look better? Good point.
I like the lot to be honest..
But for now I will stick to Horus Heresy and 30k. Lots of plastic MkIII Space Wolves to paint (courtesy of eBay and a surprise from the missus..)before I can justify another GW purchase.
But chances are I will be weaker in a couple of months 😉
Why such a long delay on the Sisters of battle update and they only give you Celestine and two angels ?
GW just showed off the new lord of change : https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/01/08/warhammer-live-round-up-january-4-6-2017/
the new figures look good but lottttsssss of small bits to get broken.
PS love van heling?
The Deathwatch getting started set looks great, I want it. Missed out on the Xmas set and these are set to stay in production so look good.
This artwork here
makes me very interested with regards to who the guy in red might be (it is obviously an Eldar of some type).
