Forge World’s New Years Open Day Covers All The Bases
January 2, 2017 by brennon
Forge World are holding a New Years Open Day right now, yes today, the 2nd January 2017. There they will be showing off some cool new products on the way this year and here's a sneaky peek at some of them.
Leading the way for the Fantasy Football side of things we have Mighty Zug above who would be a great pick for someone who has snapped up the new version of Blood Bowl. Now you have a proper Star Player miniature to use on the tabletop!
Far Future Battlefields
As well as that we got to see something monstrous in the form of Mazarall The Butcher for those who like delving into the world of Age of Sigmar or indeed Warhammer 40,000. Deamons do seem to be the flavour at the moment!
Sticking with the grim dark future in some regards we also have this rather superb looking Contemptor Dreadnought for the Legio-Custodes.
This is actually a Contemptor Galatus Dreadnought and is showing off with that rather epic looking blade and the awesome Roman-style shield. I think this would be a neat addition to someone's Horus Heresy collection. Finally, we also have some support for the Space Wolves as Russ gets his Wolves.
Not a bad selection of pieces for you to get excited about. I must say the Wolf-Kin and Mighty Zug have my vote and they aren't connected really so I'm just hit by shiny syndrome!
The Hobbit
If you're a fan of Middle-Earth gaming then you might want to considering looking to The Hobbit and what Forge World have planned in that department.
The Iron Hills Dwarf Command are leading the way for the Dwarves in the world of The Hobbit and will be a nice addition to their existing set of infantry. It's neat that they don't have a regular fabric banner, it makes much more sense to have something sturdy as a Dwarf!
In terms of enemies, a pair of Gundabad Ogres are on the cards...
You will recognise these creatures from the fight that happened in Dale as Bard was battling against the Orcs to try and save his children.
This second one is my favourite of the pair as I think the facial features come across better and give it less of a human appearance. I like my monsters to look like monsters!
What will you be picking up in the near future from Forge World?

Gutted I have to miss this, would have been all over the Iron Hills and Gundabads not to mention the Mighty Zug.
Like @wesadie1969 I will also be all over the Hobbit and Blood bowl stuff. Got my Bloodbowl Refs the other day and are fantastic models (and cheaper than what e pay for other GW clam packs in Australia)
I’m really surprised that Zug looks great! I’m still stuck thinking this is 90’s Bloodbowl we have at hand. That look on his face just captures that heavy drinker with a fowl temper, perfect.
Looks like they’re selling the original Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader rulebook as well.
It’s just occurred to me that 2017 is the 30th anniversary of 40K.
From the year that was video they released just before christmas, it looks like the 13th crusade will be a massive narrative campaign for the year and quite possibly heralding 40k endtimes before 8th gets launched…
Yep £35, if I didn’t already have it on the shelf I would have.
Any prices on these?
I am new to Forge World products and was surprised how expensive the new Hobbit miniatures turned out to be. Hopefully the Blood Bowl figures won’t be quite so cha-ching.
Guaranteed it will be “Bend Over Day” in terms of prices. Pass.
Value is always subjective, some items seemed reasonable to me, others much less so.
To be fair the Iron Hills Warrior box works out cheaper per fig than the finecast Gundabads.
Never had a problem with FW/GW prices, but it’s all down to personal circumstances and what you regard as value for money.
Mighty Zug went quick, but £18. Ogres for hobbit £28 and stunning. Dwarf command £20 – this seems way too high. Dreadnought is £56 was tempted but the ones with guardians spears on display where stunning. I just grabbed Alfred and Grak and Crumberry in the end trying to stick to my resolutions for the hobby. On show the Custodes vehicles – 3 now and 3 dread varieties all very nice. Hobbit wise a Gundabad Troll which is a monsterous beast – and the singularly stunning goat riders, with dismount options. Bloodbowl wise – Dwarves where there with the Deathroller… Read more »
So mighty Zug about 30 A$, Ogres 48 A$ and Dwarf Command 34 A$ ……….All great value. Thank #$$% Forgeworld is mail order and doesn’t sell directly in Australia , it keeps the prices down
I believe they’re an Arm and a Leg as a deposit and your first born child at some point in the future. They’re also accepting souls if you’re prepared to sell it.
Those are really good.
I like the look of the ogre’s & the custodian.
Ooh that Legio Custard dread. Oh my!
