Mantic Share Their December Releases For Dungeon Saga & Warpath
December 2, 2016 by brennon
Mantic Games has put together a look at what's coming for December. Dungeon Saga bits and pieces join forces with some neat books for those interested in the Sci-Fi side of things too.
First up we have an adventure into the world of Dungeon Saga as we battle in The Black Fortress...
"The raid itself had been swift and entirely unexpected. Nobody had seen much from the local Orcs for many years, and to suddenly find them so brazen, so strong. For years the hills had been a haven for a small number of Orcs; everyone knew that. Even so, there had never been more than a handful of them and they lacked any kind of organisation.
How did they mount such a carefully planned attack and why?"
This gives you a series of new tiles for playing out your games of Dungeon Saga and six new narrative quests for a campaign to take your heroes on.
Also, you can delve into an adventure book with Rise Of The Shadow King which sounds awesome!
"Rise of the Shadow King is a Dungeon Saga Adventure Gamebook in which YOU are the Hero. Set in the fantasy world of Mantica, you can immerse yourself in a quest to defeat the Shadow King, master of undeath.
This is a classic adventure where you have plenty of opportunity to battle the undead denizens of Mantica, travel across plains, swamps, forests and an ancient fortress as you journey towards your ultimate goal. You might even stumble upon a Zombie Troll!"
Since hearing about the passing of Joe Dever this kind of book has come back to the fore for me and it would be awesome to dive into this story and see if I could survive!
The World Of Warpath
Diving into the Sci-Fi side of things we have two books. The first of them is First Strike...
"When a backwater world is invaded by ruthless aliens, the Drakenhof Corporation's best marines are sent to repel them. But they are not the only interested parties and the Council has also sent Lieutenant Commander Roca of the Enforcers to Investigate.
Why has Acreon been targeted by the Veer-Myn? What secrets are hidden beneath the planet's surface that, if uncovered, could threaten the stability of the galaxy itself?"
...and the second is a collection of short stories in Containment Protocols.
If you want to dive into more from the world of Mantica and Warpath then these chunks of narrative would be perfect for you. I like the idea of seeing more books included for game worlds to help build on the tabletop battles we play. Not everyone does like reading through so maybe in the future we'll have some audio dramas too!
Will you be picking these up?

Some of these look interesting. I remember when Warlock of Fire top Mountain got released, I think there must have been a delay in getting to Australia, as I had read about it in British gaming mags (possibly even White Dwarf) and I was waiting for a sign of it anywhere. Ahh, teenage years, when anything could happen and usually did. So rise of the Shadow king might be one for nostalgia, although I suspect with the internet and i-thingies and what not, the game book has had it’s day…sigh. The Dungeon Saga expansion looks a bit light on ,… Read more »
I’d be surprised if Black Fortress came in a book box – the illustrated contents look like they consist of a few sheets of map tiles and the scenario booklet. Hardly enough to justify sticking in a box, especially as those things aren’t super-cheap (at our end of the business deal).
It doesn’t seem to include any miniatures in it, using the heroes and undead from the core set, the orcs from Warlord of Galahir as well as the Dungeon Critter models (which were KS exclusive resins).
the flooring looks brilliant and would be perfect for a shed load of games.
