Let’s Play: Bolt Action Beach Assault (Game Two)
December 5, 2016 by dignity
We're back for another game of Bolt Action by Warlord Games. This time the lads have swapped sides for this Beach Assault!
John is going to be taking control of the German assault forces and Justin will be commanding the brave British defenders.
With a few tweaks here and there it will be interesting to see how this second battle will play out.
Follow along and give us some tactical tips!
I’m so looking forward to watching this!
Gonna have to find some time later..
Sea Lion 3.0 … here we go! Just the thing to have in the headphones through a dreary afternoon at work. 😀 Thanks for another great video @johnlyons and @dignity . 😀
I think you guys pretty much caught/noted the rules errors this time around. Really the only one I saw that obviously could have significantly changed the outcome was the shooting through/near friendlies. List building wise, the first action of the game demonstrated why minimum man squads is a bad idea. You’re chancing something like a 1-in-4 chance of losing the squad via a Morale Test after a single attack. Personally, I like 8 man squads in Bolt Action as they are big enough to weather a couple of attacks and have decent firepower but not so big as to be… Read more »
Another great game. One question: Does the Shermans still have the rule where when the catch fire, they get additional pin markers or is that a V.1 rule? Just curious and I havent got my 2nd ed rulebook to hand. Just interested as the Firefly catches fire at about the 38min mark. 🙂
Other than the Armies of Germany book, most of the material in the other nations Armies of _________ is unchanged for 2nd edition. The Easily Catch Fire rule is still there for M4A1/A2/A3/A4 75mm, but a player can also spend an extra 10 points to negate it.
Ah. At least I knew the rule was there. 🙂
Nice to see a gentlemanly and friendly game. Everyone makes mistakes especially when learning new rules but what counts is that both players enjoy the experience!
Don’t forget that troops in buildings (in this case bunkers) gain an additional +1 to wound with the extra protection rule (Pg 124) as well as the +2 to hit in hard cover.
Great game again. Nice that both of you have done the assault so that we can see the difference in approach between you two.
Great game yet again!
I think John should have taken the risk and storm the minefield as well. Spreading out over the whole of the beach. But the invading force would definitely have to have yet more infantry as being without any cover can be totally devastating and tanks alone can’t capture an objective. With plenty of Panzerfausts enemy armour wouldn’t have been too much of a problem anyways.
guys is there a reason for not using the hull mounted MMg on the tanks? just forgot aye.
I really enjoy watching these games, even with the odd mistake. I’m a noob to BA, and find the games very helpful. Why don’t you digitise a Quick reference sheet and display it on the screen behind you while playing, then you wouldn’t need the book, and folks like me can see what you’re referencing with out our books.Keep up the great work.
Fun game yet again!
I can’t remember you using the new commander rules (Snap at it, or whatever it’s called). It seems a pretty massive change to the game, at least in potentia, and you should probably read up on it for next time. A 1st lieutenant could for example order one unit to throw a satchel charge, and then have another unit charge in into the bunker.
I would love to see this scenario played with Konflict 47. I love the scenario and have been looking for an overview battle for these rule. I am on the fence whether to expand out of my Bolt Action into K47. BTW, the new leader rules are a significant upgrader to the game; I agree with mrtn’s comment before mine.
