Forge World Offer Up Pre-Orders For Iron Hills Dwarves!
October 28, 2016 by brennon
The Hobbit Trilogy section of the Forge World webstore is now open for business and it brings with it a whole host of angry Iron Dwarves led by Dain Ironfoot!
The mighty Dwarven King comes mounted atop his faithful hog and on-foot, hammer in hand, ready to smash in the faces of an Orc who dares to challenge his kin. I think the on-foot version of him looks better, ready to get stuck into battle.
The touch of adding his battered helm on the floor makes it all the more heroic.
Aiding him in battle he will have his Iron Hills Dwarf Warriors with their long spears and shields creating a bulwark on which the sea of enemy bodies will crash and be repelled.
The design looks superb and when ranked up they will look like they did in the film, this steady line of surly warriors with grim duty to attend to.
Finishing things off we also have the Iron Hills Ballista which will be raining down death upon their enemies from afar.
The army is coming together nicely and it would be good to see some Ram Riders thrown into the mix alongside some of the new Orc designs we saw in the final movie too.
What do you think of this first Middle-Earth haul?

I was looking forward to this stuff being released. Didn’t realise it would be quite so cha-ching. Hmm…guess some people are more used to Forge World prices than I am.
@carlosfandango price on these is higher than I expected for Dain, warrior are about what I expected and bolt thrower is about what I expected. Interesting warriors are cheaper per model than last wave of fine cast troops.
they all look great.
Models are stunning, seen them at shows and they are quality sculpts. I think the middle earth team have some great wip and a good vision for the game.
Got to be honest though the wait and competing products and slightly higher tha n expected prices means this is nog an instant buy for me. Probably will happen eventually, probably with goat riders.
@brennon goats plus new orcs and ogres definately following. Plus lots more, exactly what should be known in about a month when the new book hits
Awesome dwarfes a little bit expensive tough but i think i will buy Dain and the Iron Hill Dwarf Warriors regardless.
I am so interested in these…….. got to figure out a way to get them…….Don’t worry I said… I’ll get new carpet in all the bedrooms and study in November I said…… It’ll be no hassle, I’ve got plenty of money I said …. f#(^!ng idiot……sigh
Hang on I just checked the price on Dain …..excluding postage………….he is cheaper than any other foot and mounted mini in the Lord of the Rings range…………(Before I cop torrent of abuse and being accused of being an idiot….. He costs 40 pounds ….. about 65 A$ https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/The-Hobbit-Trilogy?Nu=product.repositoryId&N=102584+16358 …….any other Hobbit foot and mounted mini costs 80 A$…….about 50 pounds https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Bard-the-Bowman-Foot-Mounted That’s a 20% saving ….???? I think this bears serious consideration …( and the fact that you are all outraged at the price tells me that we Australians have been getting shafted so badly that we don’t think this… Read more »
Well forgeworld doesn’t apply the GW colony tax. That is shocking. Still good news for you. I am expecting new Thrandruil and Azog as well, so could be quids in down under
Cheers @dags, I see on the site that it is free shipping on orders over 240 pounds, I think this explains why there is a growing group of 30k players with forgeworld minis in ththe local area.
Makes sense, nicer stuff for less cost its a bit of an auto-decide
Love the LoTRs game and nice sculpts, but the price plus the fact I really don’t like resin -expecially for long spindly things like pikes- means once again I will no be buying any new stuff for the game. Compared to say kensai by zenit that also has great sculpts 10 metal yari ashigaru cost £20 retail and form a store with a discount just £16. £40 for 12 dwarfs is just a bitto much and £40 for one hero is just out of my range. I hope the game does well thought. I will be there with my old… Read more »
At £50 I would expect the ballista to fire and to be able to take down walls for real
I got Dain, it really is a fantastic sculpt, blows all the fine cast stuff out the water. It’s a little more expensive than I would of liked to if paid but when you really look into it I don’t think it’s an unreasonable amount.
Oh and that’s not to mention his current rules. Absolute beast.
Pass. A shame, though.
Really like the troops, if it didn’t work out quite so expansive I’d maybe think about them as Bulwarkers for my KoW army. Not so keen on the sad warpig now that I see it again… Model on foot is nice, though
So it’s 2am in the morning I can’t sleep because of a spring cold (you know the ” if I continue laying down I drown in mucus ” feeling … cheers Nurgle, you old #$$#$). So I have gone back to examing the prices of these new Hobbit miniatures and , yep , much cheaper or if they aren’t much better models across the board. ( I personally think you English chappies have had it too good for too long, Expensive indeed!!! ) In the Iron Hills Dwarf Warriors we get 12 resin minis for 40 pounds about 65 A$… Read more »
@beardragon14 I expect a celebratory plog – what did you go for?
@dags Just Dain and the troops initially. I paint with the speed of a herd of a thousand startled tortioses, but will post.if you like. Thanks for the encouragement mate =)
Going to hold off, get the book end of November then see what forces match with scenario participants. Then build lists. So quicker than me at painting then 🙂
Painted toys is always a good thing 🙂
Definitely agree, I belong to the only painted minis can play school (for myself …. my weird idiosyncrasies should never be inflicted on an opponent) . =)
Actually looking forward to this . I hope they do Goat Cavalry
I am moving that way, always been more of a gamer but switching over think it enhances the experience. So get the non-painted. However for tournaments always been an advocate for fully painted.
No need to remortgage @beardragon14 . Westwind makes excellent dwarf goat cavalry, and pretty much every other kind of dwarf cav:

Westfalia also makes some very nice goat cavalry. They are Halfling but encased in armour, so could easily pass for dwarf.
I’ll have a look @cpauls1, I always like dwarfs on unusual cavalry…. vaugely remember a picture of one mounted on a triceratops from somewhere in my (lost in the sands of time) youth. Cheers and thanks for heads up
@beardragon14 goat cav are definately happening Adam Troke said sculpts are in for sign off and stunning
Oh fan-$%%^-tastic……I hope they are more than one mini design (3 types would be good I could live with 3) Cheers @dags , thanks mate you have been a mine of information …(I am being slightly sentimental here it was LotR Fantasy battle game that got me back into the hobby in 2001…..I’d love to see it being well done again)
I can honestly say that for someone who used to get stuff from Forge World that they have lost the plot. £300 for such a smallish army of Dwarves what are they on??. All I can say is “bung him a couple more quid and you could have Billy himself play you.” I don’t do Dwarves, but a friend of mine does in a huge way and when I say huge it takes over an hour to field his army onto a table which is full, he recently purchased on a visit to some castle several war machines for under… Read more »
Beautiful models but simply not worth the cash 🙁
On the pricing I really don’t see them as massively overpriced or anything. Personally I think they are pretty reasonable. Maybe Dain is a bit more than I’d of liked but when you think that it is £20 per model in that box I really can’t see an issue. The box of 12 warriors is £40 and that works out at what just over £3 per model? I honestly can’t see any problem with that. At least they aren’t just blisters of 3 at £15 meaning you have to spend a fortune to get one warband like with Laketown Militia.… Read more »
Continuing to play my game of “fool prices we stupid Australians pay” . @commanderkaiser, over here we pay the equivalent of 51 pounds for a battle cry trebuchet ……suddenly the Ballista looks good in value for us doesn’t it. ….. and you are right about the infantry
The issue is they are £3.30 per model in a cheaper material than other companies that also produce models of a same/similar quality. More than double in the case i pointed out. I play infinity where I get at best 14 models for £75 and £62 with a store discount. So the prices compared are quite similar. However inifinty requires less models for a force and each is individual to a greater deagree(costing more to design) More expensive models become more prohibitive as the model count increases. I would also say they are higher quality sculpts but that is somewhat… Read more »
The othet issue is everything new for the LOTR game will be forge world resin. So the ‘high end’ resin is not a extra people who want display pieces, but a must if you wantbto play new things for the game. So people including me will just not get any new stuff. I feel like the real reason for this is GW does not want an alternative plastic dwarf box or any other unit because people like to proxy them in place of a WHFB dwarfs (AOS now i geuss) and this makes them less because the LoTRs is a… Read more »
Those are really stunning dwarves. Some of best ones I have seen so far.
Dropped a small fortune on these bad boys, enough to qualify for free shipping from FW, that doesn’t happen very often.
