Let’s Play: The Walking Dead – All Out War
October 3, 2016 by dignity
Join us as we try and survive the zombie apocalypse in a Let's Play of The Walking Dead: All Out War by Mantic Games.
John and Justin have been joined by Rob who is going to walk them through the game and show them how to survive as they battle walkers and each other!
It's great seeing the narrative from the comic world unfold!
Who do you think will win?

Don’t say the Z word or the W word. It’s based on the comics, so it shoud be ‘roamers’ if they’re moving and ‘lurkers’ if they’re not 😉
Wasn’t that caught by the non wargame, liked the mini’s though. But after 20 minutes this is definately on the ‘I Want’ list.
Phew, now that was a tense game! I wasn’t sure when I saw the very first demo but this has made me very glad I backed the KS!
Quick question: I assume Sandra was supposed to roll for damage from the bite every turn?
Cannot wait for the bootcamp
Waiting for my KS pack to drop, shame vid had one of the rules wrong.
Rob from Mantic here. Yeah, think I got a bit carried away and by the time I realised Justin and John were in full flow, so I didn’t want to stop them. Still, an exciting game and the Boot Camp should be cool too…
this is making the wait for the KS stuff soo much harder …
(and that’s before I think there’s a wave 2 coming after the first one)
you should of warn the hat justin
Great report, even the paper mat looked really nice.. excellent rules, loved the nerve roll, something missing from other Undead games. Looking forward to my KS copy, and i still need to build my battle systems stuff too..!!!
A nail biting game guys……. Cannot wait for a AK card…………. And don`t forget people rules come with design your own gang….. Z-Nation time…. just need a “cheese wheel ” card
@soulman – we actually used a mouse pad gaming mat that the guys have made for this game 🙂
at around 24:00 did Rick run and NOT attract a Zombie?
I haven’t been able to finish this video yet, but I’m wondering about playing this game single player. Is there a campaign to play? It seems like there might be. How does the story telling work? Either way, I’m sold. Just curious. Thanks!
Second question, say I wanted to create my own character. I don’t know, maybe a crossbow wielding redneck who is an expert squirrel hunter. Is there a lot of direction on how to create characters, or is that pretty open to the players?
I backed the KS mainly because of the comic book license and to get my hands on those figures but now I just cannot wait to actually play the game.
Man alive, this is gonna be one intense Bootcamp weekend..!!
@soulman
I agree on the mat. Looks really convincing on camera 😎
Great show, these let’s play videos are brilliant. It’s a real highlight to see a new one up, not only does it make for great viewing but it’s often a game I either know nothing about or know only in passing and I enjoy learning the game, seeing the dynamic and possibly end up buying it.
Hi @peteyo… There is 5 pages in the rule book on character design, you build up with stats, abilities etc in points. And in the campaigh section, you can use exp points to expand your abilities and if you are bitten, you may have a arm chopped off… I don`t know more then that. but you can have your guy, and give him a crossbow of course, Be nice to do some Z-nation characters too like the “Doc”. And i feel adding new abilities should be easy… like “Camp Counseller” – Action, if a friendly not in melee model is… Read more »
Thanks!
Game looks really good fun. If only I could go and buy it from my local store.
Shouldn’t Sandra have rolled the black dice at the end of every turn after she got bitten to see if her health drops? Or am I wrong?
Looking forward to getting my KS delivery for this, the mechanic looks really fun.
@Dignity…….I am actually glad you lost this game as I don’t think you deserved to win (karma meant you didn’t)! 😛
You were being a tad spawny with some of your measuring (down to the mm), almost like you were playing Warmachine/Hordes rather than a narrative game. John was playing much more in the spirit of the game to my mind.
Can’t wait to hold the game in my hands. looks awesome
looks like a pretty intense game!
im curious about the threat level mechanic – when it reaches 18 the game is automatically ended and scenario points are counted up. what does this represent’ in game’? ..what occurs at this threat level that means all the action just stops with (seemingly) no consequences to the situation of the survivors currently face?
I guess in a campaign, there might be consequences for characters that are still in melee at the end of the game, or perhaps even characters who are more than the run distance away from a table edge.. but for one-off games I suppose it will depend on the scenario. Considering how this game unfolded, if there was any kind of penalty for loosing characters or leaving them behind, the winner could end up being the one with the smallest negative score lol
I guess it represents the loading logo appearing and the next cut scene. Then you are taken to the next level. 🙂
Maybe it represents that there is always a herd not far away and that much noise makes it unsafe to stay, no mater the prize or situation unfolding between rival survivors…
Brilliant game, I think the rules shenanigans can be forgiven.
Cannot wait for my KS bundle to arrive. I want to tweet the rules for a DeadSpace feel (yes I have a couple of Deadspace Engineer mini’s from kabuki, 1with a plasma cutter, 1with the converted pulse rifle). I wonder if the these rules can be used with Deadzone 2.0………..
I feel a home brew DeadSpace rules mix coming on!
So glad I’ll be at the bootcamp. Gameplay looks great. Will be interesting to see this on bigger tables. The smaller space did keep it interesting, but I think some more opportunities for tactics would come on a bigger table. Shooting on a small space looks like such a negative with only one shot per round, but perhaps it should be. Maybe rolling to see if you penetate a second walker if they are lined up is in the rules as an optional extra rule? The events cards add the potential for some cool dramatic moments. I love to just… Read more »
If you try to run as a campaign style game I can see things going bad quickly. It looks easy to kill off key characters. Alternatively if you made it that certain characters can’t die (appearing again in the next skirmish unscathed) this would also ruin the experience and break the emersion. Can’t wait for this to arrive and delve in.
