ClearHorizon’s Sigma Event Kickstarter Launches Today
September 23, 2016 by brennon
ClearHorizon is hitting Kickstarter with their 15mm Sci-Fi range for Sigma Event giving you access to troopers and the bugs to battle against them.
Here's the background to what's going on...
"A Sigma Event, in BlackOps parlance, is an event that the Galactic Council deems a sudden and unexpected situation that only the most highly trained and discreet operatives can successfully deal with before a potentially galactic-wide threat comes to fruition.
You'll be on the hidden front lines as you attempt to stop an unexpected and unknown force that threatens not only the outer rim colonies but the galaxy as a whole. You must study and stop the threat before it grows in power by consuming the incredibly resource-dense worlds of the outer rim mining hubs.
The Galactic Council has tasked you to respond to the most dangerous Sigma Event yet... Sigma Event: 2177"
The focus is going to be on creating two armies for this game and also providing you with the Gruntz Lite rules so you can play out this campaign on the tabletop.
I do like that they've given a nod to Live, Die, Repeat with their character model leading the soldiers into the fighting.
We've got some of the first character designs here for you, painted up and ready for deadly missions behind enemy lines.
Considering their scale they are incredibly well detailed. To be honest though at this point I probably shouldn't be surprised as sculptors are learning to put more and more detail into smaller pieces.
You can also see the terrifying bug menace threatening us!
Is anyone else getting the feeling that we're all doomed, Starship Trooper style? Well, hopefully, these special operations troops will be able to deal with the infestation.
I do like the clear basing idea for miniatures at this scale too. It makes the miniature stand out quite a bit more, not being crowded by an overburdened base.
What do you think?

The bug look pretty cool.
1) Build diorama.
2) Use granular brown sugar instead of sand on the troopers bases.
3) Set it all up next to an anthill. One with the really big ants.
4) Film Starship Troopers 5 live as it happens!
Although I think I’ve no space for a new system – either on my shelves or in terms of brain capacity – this one, especially with the Gruntz-Lite rules and 15mm figures, I might just find a small space for…
A big issue I see at the moment is the unknowns at this stage of shipping outside of the US. For what appears at first to be a reasonably priced deal – this can very quickly double or even triple when shipping and customs charges are added later and on delivery.
1x Starter set… $40 ~ £30
plus EU shipping plus customs … £40… £50…£60? Who knows?
I would anticipate shipping to most of Europe between $15 and $20. There will also be discounts for the rest of our ranges as well at the end of the kickstarter
the figures look good.
Is this gonna be a stand up fight or another bug hunt? Sir
Yet another Kickstarter. Didn’t see that one coming.
I’ve not really considered 15mm before and though I’ve heard of Gruntz I know little about it. The number of minis you get in the box makes me think 28-32mm scale would be better but I assume the rules allow you to play much larger games with ease, avoiding the bloating that 40k suffers from.
I will be watching the campaign with interest.
Gruntz is designed as 15mm System , its really for the big battles at small scales , so I can have companies on the tabletop and not be bogged down at times ‘bloating’ as you put it.
ClearHorizons has adapted the rules to a very succesfull specop game , which needs less models , but doesnt loose the granularity of the bigger battles with Gruntz.
Also this allows you to get into 15mm Gruntz at this level and expand out.
Thanks for the low-down 😀
