Mighty War Elephants Lumber Into Battle From Victrix Soon
September 16, 2016 by brennon
Victrix have previewed some render work for their new War Elephants who are popping up to supplement their Punic Wars era wargaming. Will they be making it into your Ancient World wargaming?
This is early render work so it isn't totally finished yet but it gives you a good idea of the final product. I already like the amount of work that's gone into the Elephant to make it look realistic, avoiding the strange flat look you sometimes get with animals.
The idea is that they will supply you with two different poses for the War Elephants with options for the type of crew you want. Carthaginians, Romans, and Numidians are on the cards.
Another faction has been considered to crew these Elephants but they're waiting on concept work to see if they can make it a reality. Plenty of transfers should be on the way too to cover those shields on the howdah.
Will you be bringing these to the tabletop?

Hell yes! 😎
Just what historical games around period need.
YES!!!!!!!
I’m just done re-reading Scullard’s book on ancient elephants.
that’s a wee Forest Beast (?)
He needs some leg-bangles/skirmisher-support or someone might hamstring him 🙁
their is a pigmy elephant is Asia that may have been more common then?
Look up North African elephant. It was a subspecies which went extinct in Roman times. Only 2.5 meters at the shoulder. Rome Total War was good for something!
I am might upgrade him to Imperial era – Emperor/Praetorians 🙂
I would need to look at the original text – but some sources suggest that Forest Elephants were almost black in colour (I didn’t know this before reading Scullard – and just assumed they were grey)
I’d be interested if the other faction is classical Indian
Bring ’em on! I still have my flaming pig models from the 80s!
looks good.
Shaved mammoth for Justin?
