A Ragin’ Barbarian & Sly Spellcaster Come To Life From Sculptor Sylvain Quirion
September 15, 2016 by brennon
Before we get into this we're unclear as to what game these particular models are for but they look awesome and had to show them off. See what you think of the work of sculptor Sylvain Quirion on this Barbarian and Mage.
We think this is rather epic and we like the style of miniature a lot where they've included a comic nature to his proportions to take him to the next level. The helmet is very cool and the axe design means that they won't look too boring once painted up.
You can take a look at the model in more detail here.
Following on from him we also have this great looking Mage that could also pass as a Sorcerer or Wizard depending on the game world you use him in.
He has a certain 'evil' edge to him which might mark him out as one of the bad guys our Barbarian has to fight against. On the other hand, he might be a powerful Warlock with a snooty demeanour but underneath it all, he's a good guy.
I think it would be cool to actually paint the staff here with a slight snake-like texture to it hinting that he might be able to bring it to life with a spell or two.
What do you think of these sculpts?

they could be great for chaos as leader and wizard.
To me it’s the barbarian that looks the evil one. The Mage looks like the obstructive bureaucrat high priest that’s not evil, yet still ends up getting in the hero’s way. Then again, considering his resemblance to Keneth Williams, maybe he’s a character from a lost Carry On film; Carry on Warhammering?
On a serious note, I’d love to use that mage as a psyker for Black Crusade; would be perfect as a Tzeentchian character (maybe a priest from a world manipulated by the Thousand Sons to serve as a source of cultists).
Very nice. That Barbarian looks a lot like Garruk Wildspeaker from MtG while that Mage could be some Orchov priest.
Agreed
Some nice looking sculpts. Very clean and I bet they’ll paint up sweet.
The caster could also be a higher ranking priest type due to the hat, paint in white with brighter colors as accents and you have a higher ranking clerical look.
Mainly because the hat makes me think of the popes hat.
Why is the barbarian wearing such a skimpy outfit? Not very practical. And those muscles just aren’t a realistic body shape and it sends out a bad message. I’m feeling #triggered
They look fantastic – I’d love to know what game they’re from.
I think they could just be generic fantasy miniatures for use as proxies in other games or perhaps as characters in RPGs. There’s quite a few companies that do it and their miniatures are quite often superb – I suppose they have to be in order to get people to buy outside of whatever range they would normally buy from.
Where all the folks that like to yell “sexism in our hobby”?
I mean the barbarian is almost nude, or is that it only counts for human females?
That would be sexism….
Yes sarcasm…
Oh and love the sculpts….
very well done.me dig
