Osprey Publishing To Release Napoleonic Skirmish Rules
September 15, 2016 by stvitusdancern
A new rulebook coming out in December of this year will explore the Napoleonic Wars in skirmish battles, Chosen Men.
These rules allow you to play as light infantry and cavalry, concentrating on lower rank NCOs and their men. Almost like the flankers or skirmishers that went out ahead of the main troops to find and engage the enemy and keep them occupied until the main force arrived.
This ruleset if for those of you interested by the Napoleonic Wars but were turned off by the usually high model count. Now you to can get you fix of musket and bayonets with blaring trumpets and bright bold colours. These rules are designed around a model count of a dozen or so miniatures.
I have always been a fan of Osprey Publishing's line of rulebooks and I will be looking forward to getting a read through of this one when it is released.
Have you thought about skirmishers in Napoleonic Wars?

Perfect excuse to buy some Perry plastic kits ! 🙂
This sounds good to me.
This looks exciting. Osprey maintain a very reasonable price point making it easy to pick up a set just to try out without the feeling that you’ve made a significant financial commitment. Long may that continue.
Sounds great! I hope the rules include dragons and trolls! 😀
already exists: Flintloque and Slaughterloo 🙂
This might be good for me. I always liked the idea od historicals but I never liked the model count. This might be the answer
I’m looking forward to this and can’t wait to play some of Sharpes encounters….
In your opinion is this a better alternative to Sharp practice
This is one to have a closer look at.
This is already on my Xmas list. I hope I can use it for ACW as well.
That’s definitely one to watch!
I love Napoleonics but the model count…aargh!!
@warzan
Hope this gets some BoW coverage at some stage, I can’t remember to have seen anything Napoleonic other than ‘Quelle Affair’..
I’m happy to supply the forces 😎
Just buy Flintloque by Alternative armies
that was meant to be a reply to a post further up
I wonder how different it will be to Sharpe Practice 2
Sounds like it’s a bit of a different scale for one. A dozen or so miniatures vs. several tens of figures.
im looking forward to this and the futuristic sci fi game theyre bringing out at the same time…
much like everyone else, time to play some of sharpes encounters!
but also i generally love the napoleonic era, so gives me an excuse to buy many of the models i like without having to build a large army!
Yes!! Gonna get me a Sharpe.
Keep wondering if Osprey will come out with something like this for the American Revolution. Or if this is generic enough to be used for AWI as well and how it would compare to Muskets and Tomahawks.
great for playing battles from the TV/Books.
interesting.
This could be the one that gets me into historical wargaming.
