Learn The Basics Of Games Workshop’s Gorechosen Boxed Game
September 4, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop have put together a neat video which gives you an overview of how you play their new boxed game, Gorechosen, which is coming soon to add to the world of Age of Sigmar.
I have to say the game is sounding like a lot of fun (see the video above) and I could see it being a nice distraction as you're setting up for a bigger game. The models look neat too and if you picked up the latest White Dwarf you received additional Hero choices too.
I think the brutality of Khorne has come through in what rules we've been shown so far and the way the cards are used in game adds a nice level of pushing your luck to proceedings.
With some nifty mechanics in this game and a cool theme to it I hope to see them looking to this as inspiration for future projects.
What do you think?

Looks interesting. Pity it’s only Khorne – I could easily see orcs and ogres- sorry, orroks and ogors (or however they spell them) -joking in the fray. In fact I could see the servants of the other gods joining in too. Maybe an expansion covering these options will be released at some point.
It would seem a simple thing to drip-feed expansion rules in White Dwarf.
I could image those that don’t serve any Chaos Gods taken as slaves and forced to fight Khorne champions.
One would think so, especially given how they can just bundle several other older characters with a new sculpts for variant gods. Remains to be seen if anything like this happens, GW has a very inconsistent track record when it comes to support stand-alones. Regardless this is the exact type of game where the fanbase could make their own materials / variants. Not in the least as pretty much any of the gods already has an array of characters readily available. Heck I think that with some tweaking this could even be made compatible with the old WD Wyche Arena… Read more »
Would actually be a convenient idea for WD freebies from time to time come to think of it – just bundle in a mini with WD and add in the stat card to ‘justify’ including the freebie.
I think it suits Khorne perfectly! Maybe adding some monsters later would be cool but the idea of would be champions of Khorne battling to the death in an arena cheered on by baying marauders and maybe even lesser demons sounds pretty cool to me
this looks ace! simple enough mechanics that it can be explained in a 3 minute video, but with super aggressive play style.
rather than repeating this for the other gods, i’d love to see one more themed to their lore.. so for nurgle, it’d be some kind of pandemic game where you’re racing to spread your own particular infection across the realm. maybe slaanesh could be a resource management game as you try to build a sex dungeon empire in all of the red light districts across the known world! 😉
IMO Khorne is the least interesting of the chaos gods (big angry red guy KILLKILLKILLBLOODSKULLZzzzz) but this game looks really good. I’m tempted.
(As I say IMO – Tzeentch is my homeboy)
I think it’s because over time the four gods have become flanderised. Unless I’m mistaken there was a time when Khorne encompassed things like martial pride and honour, not just mindless slaughter. He was always about bloodshed but there used to be different levels to it, just like Slaanesh had more to him than just being the god of sex, drugs and rock&roll.
Ha. That’s very true. A few authors aside (Aaron D-B, etc.), chaos has been flattened to a one-dimesnional cartoon level.
Quite interesting and with enough support, or traction with the fanbase, the potential start for a whole range of expansion and variants. Other gods, battle of the Nobz, Wyche Arena, Necron museum piece, Tau tactical training exercise, Kroot fighting pit (dibs on this one btw 😉 ), if the core system is simple, fast, yet deep enough the options are myriad. In fact the old Wyche Arena game that was released through White Dwarf many, many a moon ago, may offer a lot of ideas for variants already. Think I’ll ‘need’ to see if I can still find my copy… Read more »
Looks like a cool game, for £28 outlay, can’t really lose.
I feel strangely attracted to this game..8-)
Maybe if it was half the price they are asking.
If you buy the models in this game separately you already will pay more than double what you pay here. For me that fact alone is what’s making me consider the purchase – cos’ the models are all Ace, but their individual price has put me off until now…
£35? For that? Pass. But then again, for those who just paid £22 for Kharn, I guess this is a bargain.
Doesn’t seem that expensive… a lot of similar board games which don’t even contain miniatures or the like are around that price range, Tsuro: Game of Path, etc.
£28 most places
Yes, which is why I said “around that price” – £7 difference, and instead of smooth tokens you get GW plastic characters, which is why it doesn’t seem that expensive for what you get.
Well, they are already supporting it in WD, the latest release has ruled for Valkia and the free WD mini.
The WD also has some small new rule for warhammerquest, execution force, and overkill.
It looks like a fun little game so imho it’s actually good value.
I’ve paid more for games with no miniatures at all 😉
May be worth a dabble, worth the price just for the 4 figs.
khorne, is the only/best god for this type of tournament game.
This looks interesting and worth a punt, low cost buy in and probably a good evening of fun with a few beers. 🙂
Looks like a fun little game tbh. Not a Khorne player but will pick this up for a little bit of Friday night fun when we haven’t got time for a larger game.
As others have said, I have paid more for games with no miniatures and these are pretty sweet miniatures at that.
Video has tempted to to try a demo of I can find one. Board maybe a bit small for real positional play but willing to try. I do think GW would widen the appeal if they went with one peice models.
