The Grim & The Grave Expansion Coming To Total War: Warhammer
August 24, 2016 by brennon
Total War: Warhammer continues on after Call Of The Beastmen (an excellent DLC I, recommend picking up) with The Grim & The Grave which will add two more Legendary Lords and more to your Warhammer Fantasy experience on PC.
With this pack you're going to get Volkmar The Grim for the Empire, the Grand Theologist himself, and Helman Ghorst the Necromancer. His story is actually quite the tragedy and well worth reading up on but it really does delve into the grim dark of Warhammer Fantasy turning good men bad.
As well as the two new Legendary Lords for use in the campaign you will get access to new units.
One of them is a Hero in the form of the Ghoul King who looks devastating. Additional content includes...
- Two new Legendary Lords…
- …with new quest chains, magic items and skill trees
- Two new additional Lord types
- Five all-new battlefield units plus variants
- 18 elite Regiments of Renown
- Free Legendary Lord and five new battle maps for all players
...and you'll get the likes of the Corpse Cart, Flagellants, Free Company Militia and even the Mortis Engine joining the fight.
I have yet to attempt an Empire campaign for Total War: Warhammer yet but I reckon I might go for one and delve into the zeal and fire that the followers of Sigmar can bring to bear.
Have you been enjoying this game?

The new heroes are meh. The new units on the other hand are where it’s at. The Empire army always felt like an half done army. They feel a bit better now, be nice to seem some heavy infantry, liking the new regiments as well. Hopefully see Ruglands Armoured Orcs and the Dragon Company at some point.
I actually like the new heroes. But just out of curiosity: which of the new troops would you define as heavy infantry? The flagellants? While they won’t break I would be carefull to call the heavy infantry. They seem to be wearing only light armour and will probably geht shot to bits.
Ah no sorry I meant they are still lacking heavy infantry a la Dismounted Reiksguard.
hmm … on one hand I get that DLC need not be bad.
Pricing of this stuff is always tricky to gauge (is it worth +/- 8 Euro ?)
OTOH I wonder if they could have sold us a more complete game by delaying it a few months and include all of these minor DLC bits as standard.
While I understand your position I have to mention that I think we got a complete game from the beginning. The roster of all armies were full and quite diverse. Yes we didn’t get the full army lists from the tabletop, but I don’t think that this is a requirement. I don’t want to appear like a fanboy, but the constant criticism of this game is vexing me. They created 3 new lord models, new quests, 5 new maps and 5 more units. So I think they deserve to get paid for that. I understand completely if you say you… Read more »
Agreed, it’d be a bit like complaining that you had to buy the expansion games for Dawn of War to be able to use Imperial Guard or Necrons.
I’m also with you, I played 2 long campaigns and I still had 3 to play before the Beastman DLC came out, for me that felt like a complete game. If anything us tabletoppers should be more prepared for DLC since this is the format for all our favourite games – they are quite often initially released with limited factions which then get added to over the years as well as new factions getting added. But for some reason because there’s no physical production line and so many things in the technology world are free, there’s a pervading opinion that… Read more »
@vonevilstein: What actually pisses me off about the community are the people who trash the base game on Steam and give it one star review because they don’t like how the DLCs are priced.
If you don’t like the DLCs don’t buy them. But trashing a great game because you don’t like the price of the completeley optional DLCs? That’s just petty.
Indeed that is ridiculous. Unfortunately for us though, “Petty” is the internet’s middle name….
When compared to their ‘historical’ variants the initial list of nations was a bit basic. Of course half the stuff in Rome:TW was just Romans with a different color, but it felt bigger at release. And to add insult to injury you had to pre-order in order to get an additional campaign. That’s the only reason I think it was a bit empty, which makes the extra stuff after release feel like something that could have been in it. In addition there’s the inevitable steam sale, which means I’d probably be buying the entire thing + all DLC for less… Read more »
Looks interesting; purchased the base game recently and been playing it over the last outlet weeks and enjoyed it (managed to win my first campaign by accident using Dwarfs) so might have to pick this up at some point. Will have to check the old bank account and have a think over whether the pre-order 10% discount is worth it or if I should wait; have yet to purchase the Chaos and Beastmen DLCs yet, so not in a rush to get this one.
looks good with all that warpstone the skaven should be swarming around their?
Not a bad game, but they are overdoing the “pay for a couple of unit” thing a bit (too many DLCs, too fast … and to my taste a bit expensive).
I remember when expansion meant entire brand new campaign with new units or even new faction added in as well.
