Awesome work as always, only complaint (and its my own fault for not waiting and binge watching) is now i have to wait for part 2!
Great tutorial – thanks a lot.
I assume Dark Sea Blue from Vallejo instead of the Coal Black will also work?
Thanks for the kind words !
Coal Black is greener, but Dark Sea Blue would work perfectly… You may also want to use Periscopes, from Vallejo’s Model Colour range.
Great work Romain, absolutely love the hair on her.
II love tutorials like this a they build your “skill set” ….. Thanks Romain
hello romain
thanks so much for the priming and pre shading with the air brush ,perfect timing.
will the primer spray as easily as my paint, or do I need to be more careful with the consistency?
I have the scale 75 primers if that helps.
mini looks great .
I will watch the colour theory episodes while I wait for part two.
at this rate you might actually make an artist out of me.
until next time lao shi
The Scale75 range is excellent, and well suited for airbrushing. You won’t have any problems even with the primers. You need to be a little more careful with thicker paints, like P3 or regular (not “Air”) Vallejo paints, but that’s it, really…
The moment I become an artist myself, I’ll let you know, tong ! 🙂
that’s a great figure to paint & love the painting your doing romain.
One word, Awesome!
Finally had time to catch up with this and watch the video. Awesome looking so far and once more very helpful tipps and i learned a lot again. So thank you very much Romain 🙂
Superb!!!!! That hair is looking immense 😉
Thanks guys ! I feel proud and honored that you enjoy what I do ! 🙂
Loving the paint job and this season may be the best of 3 colors yet. Also, thank you for adding the colors you are using as part of the description. As a color blind minis painter it is really helpful that I have a good starting point to start a model. My elementary school art teacher was wonderful, the problem is that was a few years ago and it is nice to get a refresher from someone who does such a good job of teaching. Your color theory videos made me more comfortable to branch out. @elromanozo Thanks so much!
Thank you very much ! 🙂
You’ll have to thank Lance for the colours list and the new presentation/editing… we strive to improve !
What is your airbrush set up? Also, I have never seen that preshading technique, I am going to have to give it a try. Do you add glaze medium at all or just thin the paint with water?
The airbrush set-up was 2 bars of pressure, double action gravity-fed airbrush, the paints being thinned with water (but not much, since they’re already quite flowing). I sometimes like to work at 1.5 or 1 bar for delicate work.
I so enjoy your tutorials Romain. They’re so informative and inspiring, and I always find I learn something new. Thanks for rerunning this. as a fairly new member, I would have missed it, and I’m very glad I didn’t.
Nice to see a painting tutorial go up for the theme week.
Fantastic tutorial. Love the model too and the colours chosen for this.
I really like what you did using the thinner paints over the pre-shade. It really builds up the colors nicely. I have been trying something similar on my own but have been unable to successfully do so.
Thank you ! It’s all about control : less paint on your brush is usually the ticket. Try and try again !
Great job @elromanozo. Do you have a tutorial for the “pre-shading” technique?
There’s one in the vault, yes, but it’s done with spray cans, very simply. It’s not hard, really… Spray black, then spray grey from the top (more lightly) as if the figure was lit from above (or from wherever you need the light to come from), then spray white only where the highest light is supposed to be.
So sort of like the Cell Shading technique?
(I’ve been practicing that one a lot…)
Great tutorial!
Thanks again, everyone ! I absolutely loved painting that miniature… the whole range is gorgeous ! It’s a privilege to work on it, and an honor to be able to teach you stuff doing it !
Well Roman don’t feel shy to make another RK painting tutorial ^-^ You know the shattered sword models look cool. Or do you prefer another RK-faction to paint?
This is very high end stuff, though your colour theory musings apply equally to those of us in the “tabletop” camp. Thanks very much Romain!
