Gen Con 2016 Live Blog: Day One!

I made sure to get over the the Fantasy Flight booth to have a look in the cases before the line gets in the way. They are showing off their new Star Wars Destiny game. I love my Star Wars, which I suppose means this game just got added to my list!

While scouting out the exhibitor hall, we came across Dave and we wanted to get in early since he usually loses his voice talking about all things Dropzone and Dropfleet Commanders.

We give you a quick peek at just a small section of the Exhibitor Hall before the doors open to the general public and the masses pour in.

We found a small booth with a game many of us know, but did not get. All Quiet on the Martian Front is back and has a new crew to steer her true! Ironclad Games has picked up the license and all the miniatures and has big plans for it in the future!

Kingdom Death is back this year with a bigger stand and SWAMPED with people! They have even more cases this year to show off their stunning and often bizarre (in the best way) miniatures.I squeezed my way up to cases to grab a few pictures.

Dawn sits down with Brian and Keith to get the latest on all of the wonderful games Megacon Games has to offer and what is coming up on the horizon.

One of my favorite things about Gen Con is getting to chat with folks that are developing games. I had a great chat about a funky little mining board game called Hewns. This is a tile based board game with really interesting little creatures, Hewns, that need to mine for crystals. They had 3D prints to give the idea of the minis and they come apart with hidden cavities to store their crystals. Pretty cool! You can even customize them throughout your game by buying different mining bits and change them out. The game will be heading to KS at the end of the year. You can learn more at Hewns.com.

We stopped to see our friend, Sam, at the Games & Gears booth to have a closer look at the stunning display table for Dark Deeds as well as their Gen Con Legends miniature. The table did not disappoint! What an awesome way to play Dark Deeds and really get into the feel of the game.
We also took one look at the beautiful single piece resin mini they had, and shiny syndrome kicked in and out came the bank card.

Dawn talks with Neil and Rick about Halo Ground Battles. It is looking really cool and we will post pictures once we make it over to the demo table.

After seeing them in Kickstarter, I knew I had to check out the Legendary Dice Throwers From DrawLab. They looked even more awesome up close. Cool as they are, I doubt I'd use them for the purpose of throwing dice, but they'd certainly look awesome to set the scene when you're attacking a stronghold.

I came upon people getting demos of Heavy Hitters, and it looks pretty sweet! They had me at big, stompy robots. Definitely something to have a closer look at later.

Dawn has found the Don't Panic Games booth and talks with Cedric about the anxiously awaited game Drakerys.

A nice castle will stop me dead in my tracks every time, and Dwarven Forge's has brought their beautiful terrain. Totally modular, sturdy and ready to let your imagination drive, this terrain is really something! And lift up the ground level to access to playable sewers and Dungeon space below.

We thought we would give you a musical interlude in this first day of craziness. Here is a first person look at the opening of the doors to the general public for the Exhibitor Hall, enjoy!

Upper Deck is all decked out in Little China decor as they highlight their newest Legendary Encounters: Big Trouble In Little China edition. There's even The Pork Chop Express! They of course have all the different Legendary Encounters, including the fan favorite for Aliens.

Dawn chats with Ronnie from Mantic Games about all new and exciting releases.

The cabinets are FULL of awesomeness at the CMON booth. Tried to get nice shots of the new goodies for Wrath of Kings and Dark Age. If we get in early enough, they might be able open up the cabinets for us. Fingers crossed! But for now, these will work.

Dawn and Bryon from Cool Mini or Not get together to catch up on the new releases for Dark Age and Wrath of Kings. Can I say I have found my new faction for Wrath of Kings, it has Hammerhead Shark Warriors, too cool!

Star wars Armada just keeps getting better. This year it's the Correllian Conflict Set in the case. Just look at these sexy ships! Did you hear that? It's my bank account saying, "Really?" Lol

If you ask Dawn and don't unless you have hours to listen to her wax lyrical about all things Harry Potter. She speaks to Kami one of the minds behind the new game from USAopoly, Harry Potter Hogwarts Battle. She has only been talking about this game for weeks.

While roaming the vendor hall, I stumbled on a zombie party game called Survive The Horde. This is a quick and dirtyou, humorous card game that'll be going to KS. Players start off as a healthy character with a pool of tokens. Your goal is to get a hold of other people's tokens. You do this by rolling dice and competing in silly challenges. But don't worry, if you die, you're not out of the game, but you become undead and not very effective.
