Deathwatch Codex Coming Soon For Warhammer 40,000
August 1, 2016 by brennon
Games Workshop have popped up a new teaser for this weekend as Codex Adeptus Astartes: Deathwatch is on the cards for Warhammer 40,000. If you like slaughtering xenos with a crack team of Space Marines this could be the force for you.
It will be interesting to see how they work as a faction on the tabletop. While running a complete army of Deathwatch sounds like a fun idea I don't think it would work too well. I imagine that folks will be taking these Deathwatch marines and dropping them into larger forces as allies potentially.
Cleanse The Xenos
Of course we do have a range of plastic Deathwatch miniatures out there already for folks to use from Overkill. It seems to be a sensible guess that they will now release these as clamp pack figures on their own.
The Deathwatch have always been a very intriguing organisation and I like the idea that while they might not like each other all of these Chapters have had to band together against a common foe on their secret missions.
If nothing else making these miniatures available separately would be good for those of us who play the Deathwatch RPG from Fantasy Flight Games. We could then have our own models to show off on the tabletop!
I'm sure that we'll learn more as the week goes on and we start to see snippets of what lies ahead. With White Dwarf now waiting until September for its big relaunch we're likely to only have their Blog for answers as to the future of this book and the models you're seeing here.
How do you think this will work?

According to a notorious click-bait rumour monger, there is also a boxed set coming which will contain:
1 Watch Captain Artemis
5 Deathwatch Veterans
5 Vanguard Veterans
1 Deathwatch Upgrade Sprue
1 Eldrad Ultran
12 Harlequin Players
1 Death Jester
1 Voidweaver
2 Skyweavers
1 Harlequin transfer sheet.
As they say take it all with a great heap of salt, but I suspect the contents are accurate. My guess at pricing would be in line with other recent boxed sets so circa £100.
I wonder if that will be released as a game or just as a box set of miniatures
It’s being described as a core game, so my feeling is it’ll be a Calth type game. There will also be a £12 set of deathwatch dice for all you high rollers out there (lame joke I know)
Interesting contents, the eldar have much more points and vehicles.
as an update the game is called Death Masque and has a USD retail of $150, so I guess it’s going to come in at £100/120 ish, and based on the film above i’d hazard a guess at the inclusion of a drop pod.
Wouldve rather seen expansions for any of the existing “boardgames” ..
I’m still holding out hope that Warhammer Quest will get support, but there’s little chance any of their other games will ever get support like that.
I’m excited by this and a new game with harlequins too! I can see a three-way with Deathwatch, genestealers and harlequins coming to a table near me soon. I might even throw in a rogue Inquisitor as well as a fourth faction.
The game is going to be sweet (in terms of models, I’m sure the rules will just be functional) but I’m more interested in the release of Codex Deathwatch. It doesn’t exactly qualify as a full army release but it still doesn’t line up with the rumours of 40k getting the AoS treatment that have been flying around lately.
It will be very interesting to see how this one pans out. I’m liking the sound of it.
