Doctor Who Miniatures Game Now On Pre-Order From Warlord!
August 1, 2016 by brennon
Warlord Games announced that they had their mitts on the Doctor Who licence for a miniatures game last year and it seems like all of their work is coming to fruition this year. As well as talking more about the future of the game they have added both the 10th Doctor & Companion Set and the 12th Doctor & Companion Set to their webstore for pre-order!
These character releases will give you the relevant Doctor from the TV series as well as their famous companions. With the 10th Doctor Set you will get David Tennant's incarnation of the Doctor as well as Martha, Rose, Donna and Wilfred.
The models will be made of pewter when it comes to their characters and it looks like they are going to be free of any assembly which is always welcome when it comes to metal models. Warlord have been working tirelessly with the BBC to make sure everything is as authentic as possible too.
As well as the 10th Doctor Set they also provided a webstore link for the 12th Doctor Set too...
Unfortunately we don't have images of the miniatures for this one but inside you're going to get Peter Capaldi's Doctor as well as Clara Oswald, Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint, Strax.
What's Next?
Ahead of us lies their game called Into The Time Vortex which will have plenty of bad guys so don't worry. The plan is to bring out a range of plastic Daleks, Cybermen and Unit Troopers.
There will also be special pewter miniatures mixed in for characters and the like.
It all sounds very exciting!

Seeing as Warlord has the licence, the likeness of the figures are terrible. The 7TV not Dr Who figures are so much better.
There also needs to be 11th Doctor set with him, River Song and Ponds.
I’m sure they’re going to be working on all manner of new Doctor sets – the list is rather long! 🙂
quoting myself from when these were shown on the weekender: Those Doctor Who miniatures are probably the most disappointed I have ever been in this hobby. My two favourite things in life are miniature wargaming and Doctor Who (I even sport a seal of Rassilon tattoo). Ive been waiting years for decent ‘official’ sculpts and these seem like such a wasted opportunity, with the plethora of great sculpts out there, these are so very static and as Ive said elsewhere, they look like the cheap lead figures you would find in museum shops back in my childhood. the likenesses also… Read more »
They are pretty terrible, (although martha’s sculpt isnt too bad)…. unless they are supposed to be auton versions of them!!!! (i know they are not but it makes them slightly less disappointing if they were), lets hope they do a better job on the main attraction (well for me) being the baddies, be pretty hard to balls up daleks (although i wouldnt be surprised if davros ends up looking a burnt out jonny cab from total recall) and cybermen.
I agree,with everything,you’ve said.
I have all the crooked dice mini’s,and all the,
great black tree/harlequin mini’s,all pro painted.
And look fab on the tabletop.
Those minis look very static to me; considering how much ‘running down corridors’ there is in DW you’d have thought that they’d have gone for something more dynamic (okay, there’s not actually as much running down corridors as jokes make out, but still you’d expect something more lively; eg Ten just looks like he’s standing with his hands in his pockets rather than swaggering about with his hands in his pockets).
The minis look more like board game pieces than actual gaming miniatures and the likenesses/proportions just don’t look right on most of the, disappointing.
I don’t think that the sculpts are as bad as folks are making out. They aren’t very dynamic, folks are right about that, but I think the likenesses aren’t too far off their actor counterparts.
I think the mention of these having a ‘figurine’ quality to them is probably a choice on Warlord’s part (although wouldn’t like to put words in their mouth) – I guess they were hoping to appeal to both tabletop gamers and collectors?
It will be interesting to see how the plastic models turn out and what we get in the other Doctor Sets too.
BoW Ben
if you compare the likeness of this Tenth Doctor vs Heresy ‘not’ tenth doctor, the differnce is night and day. Its a shame that the ‘bootleg’ minis on the market outshine the official release
That makes a lot of sense Ben.
I agree that the sculpts look pretty good. I think collectors might be the larger market than wargamers to be honest. So it is understandable for Warlord to have the posses they have. I know I’ll be buying them (though they are not available in warlords US website).
Bernard Cribbins immortalised in 28mm white metal. What a world we live in! 😀
plastic daleks are all I care about. I want a huge dalek army. I do have some of the old GW daleks, but they look too tiny compared to modern 28mm figures (they are more around 20mm) so look forward to that…
Keep in mind that the characters would be cast in pewter in “one” piece which would reduce the number of dynamic poses.
These figures are definitely growing on me. Several of them don’t look as much like the actors as I’d expect, but I think without exception they’re very characterful.
I don’t mind the poses, it’s not as if these are in the middle of combat type characters, but the likeness to the actors isn’t there at all. Fat faced david tenant is doing nothing for me.
Really hoping there is better to come from this range.
I think the issue for me with these is that they aren’t better than the not versions that are on the market.
Which sounds crazy to me because it should be the other way round.
Hope the plastic “monsters” are better…..
I still don’t like Rose.
I do think Martha and Donna do look like the actresses that played them. The rest are a bit iffy especially the 10th Doctor.
Hopefully they do a good job on the original Doctors especially since the bootleg Pertwee is soooooo! good.
I have been look forward to this with a great deal of anticipation; I have to say this first reveal has left me luke warm. I am awfully surprised that they would launch this line without any of the various creatures/villains that make up the Doctor’s adventures. Seeing as this is being touted as a miniatures game, I was totally expecting some kind of starter box featuring a selection of miniatures, and rules/scenarios etc as an introduction to the game… as far as I have read, these two companion sets are literally just the minis? no rules? I DO really… Read more »
I should’ve known someone would do a Doctor Who miniatures game. So my question is , do they do The 9th Doctor and his companions or enemies; and also are there any plans to do previous Doctors and old monsters or villains from the classic run of the show?
The models/minis are actually quite nice, each character being in their signature costumes or outfits and if you know the program it’s pretty clear who each one of them is suppposed to be too.
P.S. I’d love to see my two favourites, Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor and Peter Davison, in mini sculpts. I’m also surprised they haven’t done Sarah Jane Smith or The Fourth Doctor seeing as he’s such an iconic Doctor. They could even do the Roger Delgado version of The Master as well. Daleks and Cyber Men are a no brainer.
To be honest, I didn’t expect much from this in the first place once I herd Warlords was making the models. All you need to do is look at the lineup they have for almost all the games they have made and you can see a pattern of sausage fingered, pug faces. Don’t get me wrong, I think for historic themed games such as Bolt Action what they make is more than serviceable as the clientele (historical gamers) are not looking to have unique posed models with crisp detail that can be entered into painting competitions. But rather have quick… Read more »
Well this is the first look i have had of these, and i have to say whilst you can tell who ( excuse the pun) they are meant to be they are not the best sculpts in the world. Why with the technology in miniature design and production have they gone so old school. I think that Warlord need to take a serious look at these before they clear the designs for the rest.
