Helljacks & Gunslingers Grace The Tabletop For Warmachine
June 24, 2016 by brennon
It looks like both Cryx and Cygnar are going to be the main focus for Warmachine over the next little while thanks to some new previews by Privateer Press. We'll start with the undead lovelies and their Helljacks looking at both the Seether and the Inflictor...
"The murderously aggressive Seethers were created for slaughter, a task they achieve with singular efficiency. These nigh-uncontrollable constructs are more than mere killing machines, though; they are an accomplishment of malign intent. Using the horrific soul drives grafted to their cortexes, these abominations extract energy from the rage of souls bound for endless torment in order to fuel their own dark predations."
...and they are some very dangerous looking pieces of kit!
"Inflictors are fiercely protective of their masters and use their considerable mass and armor to shield them at all costs.
These nigh uncontrollable constructs are more than mere killing machines, though; they are an accomplishment of malign intent. The soul drives grafted to their cortexes alter the behavior of these abominations in combat—captive souls give the Inflictor preternatural awareness of incoming threats."
These are some very different looking Helljacks and while I think I'd have to say no to the Inflictor - weird claws - I'd certainly like to see more of the Seether.
Carrion Thralls
As well as the big Helljacks we also have a smaller unit in the Carrion Thralls.
"Each carrion thrall is a unique and nightmarish fusion drawn from the minds of Cryx’s mad necrotechs. Cobbled together from the bodies of Cryxian birds and battlefield scrap, flocks of carrion thralls blacken battlefields to pick apart the bodies of the dead and any wounded who have been left behind."
This unit and the two Helljacks above are going to be out towards the end of August. So, if you're a Cryx fan you have a little while to wait but then you can flood the tabletop.
Arcane Gunslingers
Keeping up the Cygnar end we have the Black 13th Strike Force.
"The Black 13th is the elite strike force of the Militant Order of the Arcane Tempest and a weapon of war sharpened to a razor’s edge by relentless service to the crown. Intense fighting has cut the unit’s complement to three: Captain Dixon Lynch, Sergeant Samuel Watts, and Lieutenant Darsey Ryan.
When these three fight together, each effortlessly watches the blind spots of the others while combining their fire to tear apart any opposition. For the Black 13th there can never be capture or surrender, only victory or death."
Those are some smart looking soldiers and the sculpting is top notch on these three. I love the attention to detail with their faces and the clothing looks natural too, wrapping around their bodies and flowing in good lines.
Additionally they also have the Arcane Tempest Rifleman who is a good sharpshooter.
"These highly skilled marksmen serve as an expansion of the armed might of the Militant Order of the Arcane Tempest. Armed with steely nerve, long-ranged magelock rifles, and witheringly effective combat magic, arcane tempest riflemen operate autonomously to neutralize enemy officers or to help bring down hard targets.
Training alongside CRS scouts affords them greater awareness when navigating battlefields, able to identify enemy forces attempting to move unseen."
Now that is a fantastic looking gun. I like all of the scrolling along the barrel and the ornate nature of the gun as a whole. A great new unit and a neat solo too.
What do you think?

The carrion thralls are my favourite and the black thirteenth, while an excellent sculpt originally, were in dire need of a resculpt.
Indeed. They were tiny compared to the other Cygnar units.
Those Helljacks look menacing. Carrion Thralls, Black 13th and that Arcane Tempest Rifleman are also really nice.
Those all look great. I am very pleased to see the Black 13th re-sculpt, as i took them in a lot of lists for Mk2. The Rifleman solo looks like an interesting piece, i will be getting both of them as soon as i can for my new Mk3 lists.
Those Helljacks look nasty and awesome, everything you want from Cryx!
First I thought now they made a Cryx version of Everblight’s awful bumblebees – a horrible thought indeed! But in stark contrast to the so to speak original this time they actually managed to find a shape for a flying swarm quite fitting to the faction’s style. Nonetheless the real gem here is the leader’s miniature while the rest may be okay but are rather unimpressive to my eyes. The gunmage boss is very nice, too. To me though the most important and best thing here is without any doubt the new Helljack body. Man, that was a necessary step!… Read more »
Black 13 look so much better now that they share the same scale as the rest of the faction.
Agreed, Black thirteenth look great. Hell jacks also look very good. A lot more detail in the new Seether. Although when models are recast there always seems to be this idea that “bigger is better”
The new Seether and Inflictor look great, and I am told it is a hard plastic kit too! Also, agree with everyone else, about time too with the new Black 13th sculpts!
The 2 player battle box is Cryx vs Cygnar, so make sense for the next releases to be this. It sort of acts like a “what to get next” for new players.
The Black 13th were in need of an update… they’re still my favorite ! 🙂
