Exclusive! Empire Of Dust Taking Shape For Kings Of War
June 23, 2016 by brennon
It looks like the vast array of armies available in Kings of War is expanding once more with the introduction of the Empire Of Dust by Mantic Games!
This is a first look at the army complete with regiments of shambling undead including some fascinating Skeletons holding some ace looking weapons and shields.
We also have those HUGE creatures/constructs at the front and to the side of the image representing the different Gods from Egyptian mythology that they are based on. I could see this being a very popular new army.
While they've gone for the deep blue here I could also see them working with a jade green too.
What do you think of these undead fellows?

I’d like to see a close up of the individual units to get a better idea of what they look like. I’m not 100% convinced by the colour scheme but that’s not really a flaw with models and it’s something that each player can easily fix
Agreed, could do with some golds and bronzes to help convey the Egyptian angle.
If you open the picture in a new tab or window, you get a bigger version.
I’m pleasantly surprised by the Enslaved Guardians (the large infantry guys), I hope they at least have some variant heads in the kit to avoid exact copies.
If not, Puppetswar have a good pack of egyptian themed heads that I think would fit in size and aestetic: http://puppetswar.eu/product.php?id_product=99
Even the bigger version is still lacking in detail somewhat.
Mantic put these out just months after Tomb Kings are squatted for good. What additional evidence do they need that they’re giving their fanbase a middle finger with AoS?
Is the “they” you refer to GW?
If so, I don’t see why Mantic releasing the Empire of Dust provides any “additional evidence” about GW giving people the middle finger.
Found my army!
Some nice things… I know Mantic, I’ll have to see them up close and in person befire I trust a box art from them, but it certainly looks interesting !
Big guys are looking cool!
Crap, i like them. more money disappears!
These look rather nice. Don’t think I will play this faction but I do like them.
I love Mantic’s Undead but the infantry is going to be plastic/metal hybrids and Mantic’s success rate with those is not good. The larger all metal or resin figures will be fine with a little love and care.
Will need a close up before I’m convinced. Fool me once mantic……. 😉

man they are badly sculpted.
mantic you need to invest more time in the sculpts. you have lots of miniatures but 90% are so poorly sculpted.
“Good but not great” has been my experience with Manitic models so far. Great for the price. Bit of a balancing act I think they’re trying to pull. Love their games though.
My undead army has more of a medieval (vampire counts) look to it. But I am tempted to add a few units of these to it, I do have a few tomb kings units, with the Egyptian bits kept to a minimum, so there would be a nice mix of stuff.
Will wait to get some clearer shots before I make my mind up.
Glad to see Mantic doing this, but wish they were all plastic kits and not hybrids with metal parts added to there existing undead stuff.
It would absolutely be more convenient if the addons had been plastic, but making them in metal is probably what’s allowed Mantic to get them out this fast after GW’s discontinuation of their TK range. Not only is it a lot more expensive startup cost to make molds for plastics but, and this might be a lot more important consideration, there is not a lot of places with the capacity to produce hard plastic kits (like Rendera) and their machines are often booked far in advance. Even if Mantic wanted to put in the money for plastic kits, they would… Read more »
Those look good! I’ll be tempted to start up an army for them – depends how much restic is in the range but. Although Mantic have been playing with unicast…
Mantic’s new plastics have been good, and their undead have always been great. I am optimistic.
And there is also the fact that a large portion of the interest in this army will be former GW tomb king players, so many will already have armies. Thus, they aren’t likely to see huge volumes of sales that are necessary to recoup plastic tooling costs.
These could get me into kings of war.
Love the paint scheme.
