Exclusive! Infinity Sneak Peek – Wú Míng Assault Corps
June 21, 2016 by dignity
We're back with another fantastic preview and an Exclusive Sneak Peek of what's coming for Yu Jing and Infinity. Welcome the Wú Míng Assault Corps which is a new set of four models for your game coming soon.
This is a set of re-sculpted miniatures for N3 and they fight for the Imperial Service Sectorial Army.
In their background the Wu Ming, or Those Without A Name, are an Assault Corps born of a penal military regiment. Each of their soldiers have no name and instead receive a serial number.
The soldiers within this regiment consist of the most dangerous and violent elements of a Yu Jing force. Considering they are soon for the gallows they fight as if they have nothing left to lose.
Will you be considering these warriors?
I normally don’t like the 4 person box sets of heavy infantry where one unit has taken their helmet off / lifted their visor. But the chap with his face visible in this lot looks terrific. Still wish he had his helmet on though. It just looks weird when they’re charging towards the neemy lines.
I like to think that it’s to add that cinematic edge. As if he’s taken his helmet off to look his enemy in the eye proper!
He does look like he’s outstaring the enemy here.
Perhaps he took off his helmet because he just couldn’t believe the huge savings to be had by buying TWO imperial cheese&bacon burgers at McMings this week, buy one and get one for free! He had to see it with his own two eyes.
lol
seems a bit to much 40Kish to me.
Is it just me or is CB doing more of those helmet-in-hand, foot-on-rock poses lately. I hope it’s a fad that will pass.
CB likes their tactical rocks so I’m afraid it isn’t going anywhere. In fairness, these 4 of boxed sets only contain 2 different bodies; it’s typically arm and head swaps that make the difference, so this box having 2 standing on boxes, can be easily explained. I think once you get a whole force together, it typically isn’t so bad with regards to those with tactical junk vs those without. That said, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the tactical scenery for the Tiks / Ulhans that are coming out (I think this month) if the render is… Read more »
ah the famous tactical rock , I think space junk is better received by most though . the way corvus belli builds the armour layer by layer with the digital sculpting really is paying off in the power armour and the tags.the proportions are so good ,the building up of the armour stage by stage seems to really sell the fact there is a guy in their . no arms looking like they are attached to their back or just floating at impossible distances from the body. I think the guy with his helmet off looks like one mean triad… Read more »
I think CB are certainly getting better when it comes to digital sculpting that’s true. You mention the building up of armour, but that process must be relatively recent, because if you look at the Mobile Brigada, then the females must be incredibly skinny when you take into account how slim they are even in heavy armour.
I’m sorry, but the level of painting has dropped sharply in the last year or so, and it shows here… as have the composition in this particular update (foot on rock, repeat or almost repeat sculpts). Now, it MAY be the photographer is at fault in this particular case (the head doesn’t look good… but I see what the painter went for here, and it may just be a case of wrong lighting), but the paint-jobs have indeed been getting more and more cartoony and less detailed.
fleetey you made me go and look at the mobile brigade. they were done with that layered sculpting but they do look petite compared to the men . infinity does like its anime girls and it doen’t get more petite than anime , maybe they are going for the super slim look. you have a good eye though and I view infinity through rose tinted glasses so its good to see people pointing out things like this. elromanzo some of the painting is being done by someone other than angel it the last year or so, I forget the guys… Read more »
I also think Giraldez has dropped his standards a bit, inasmuch as he’s systematized his method… he’s painting in a more simple, and a more cartoony way. I was downright shocked at the box art for Operation Ice Storm… no subtlety in armors at all. Each figure used to be an amazing and unique piece, with special lighting and composition. I believe he still paints unique characters and artful pieces (dioramas, contest pieces, etc) to his highest standards, but the Infinity rank and file lack a master’s touch…
Opinions and all that, but while Infinity does like their women to be petite, again as you say most likely down to the anime aesthetic, I still think if you stripped away the female Mobile Brigada armour, they’d be much smaller than usual, especially when you take into account the bulk of their male counterparts. I’ve seen examples of the layering process applied to the Guijia Tag and it’s pilot, and found it interesting, but I can’t believe the MB went through the same process. Note; I’m not having a go, I still like the MB models enormously, and I’m… Read more »
It bugs me a bit that the female mobile brigadas appear to have fitted armour. I like my HI to look like massive hulks of metal that can take everything you’ll throw at them.
thanks for the insight . so this is basically angels tabletop standard then . maybe they should let him choose his pieces and armies from now on and let one or two of the other great painters out there unleash their creativity. angel probably needs the income so this is likely the way its going to be though . its a shame an artist has to compromise .please don’t roll your eyes and tut but I still think they look great , wish I could paint like angel in cruise control.
no worries fleetey my mate new you were a fan with a balanced opinion . I was worried about coming across in my enthusiasm as self appointed defender of infinity).

that’s cool .maybe if you go nomads and you need the female weapon options you could do a weapon swap on the male minis, they look like they would take some stopping.
kilian where are you fella , we need you on here for the infinity releases . would love to hear your opinion on the models and maybe the profiles if you have the time.
I would love a single multi part plastic kit of this that could make all those poses. CB please learn the power of plastic and all the fun you can have with it.
Still a sweet looking box though. My Nomads might be picking up a group or two of rogue Yu Jing soon if this keeps up.
