Print Your Own Fortress With The Vauban Fortress Kickstarter
June 1, 2016 by stvitusdancern
We have been talking a lot about 3D printable terrain lately and I for one have backed several campaigns and have a large computer folder full of files ready to be printed once I get my printer in place.
While doing my usual scan of what's going on, I came across another campaign on Kickstarter for even more printable terrain. This time around it is for printable 17th and 18th century fortifications.
VAUBAN FORTRESS - 3D Printable 17th and 18th Century Terrain is currently in progress on Kickstarter and is already funded. These models are designed to fit into any battle and are of the design you would have found during the Napoleonic eras and beyond.
The nice thing is the models are scalable so you can print one to fit whatever scale you are into playing. Want to create a huge 10mm battlefield? Go for it and print it out for your armies. What I am finding nice about these type of projects is the files are relatively low cost, and only the printer and supplies are the major expense. However, if you think about what a similar model would cost to buy from some company, I truly believe that you will come out ahead.
What do you think about these 3D printable projects?

crikey, make for some brilliant pirate action…
Interesting (strange??) shape to the fortress, is there a Historical precedent for that kind of shape? (I’m very curious about these things now lol)
yes, they are called starforts i believe. google them, they look amazing!
Yes I think that was a general name for them. The design with the sharp corners allowed for more directional fire from the battlements.

Amazing!
they were designed to remove blind spots @warzan

There’s an absolutely fantastic star fort in Copenhagen. Well worth a visit (as is the rest of the city).
The Danish army still have a few administration offices in there if I recall correctly
Kastellet – https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kastellet,_Copenhagen
The Citadel is still as an active military area that belongs to the Danish Defence Ministry. Military activity in the area includes use by the Chief of Staff, the Danish Home Guard (Hjemmeværnet), Military Intelligence (Forsvarets Efterretningstjeneste), the Judge Advocate Corps (Forsvarets Auditørkorps), and the Royal Garrison Library.
nice.
I’ll have to get a 3 printer
