New Captains Sharpen Swords For Fantastical Frostgrave
May 9, 2016 by brennon
We've had a few previews of what's coming down the pipeline from North Star for Osprey's Frostgrave and they've now shown off some proper painted shots of their Captains which will be released this month in May...
We start with this chap here with his sword and shield at the ready. He looks like a rather grizzled and tired looking adventurer who might have been at the head of a fair few mercenary companies in his time.
This chap with the big scimitar-like weapon is from far hotter climes it seems. I really like that they've not just opted for the regular Western Fantasy that we're used to seeing and they are looking outside the box culturally.
Following on from him we have a chainmail and scale clad warrior with a rather battered and beaten shield and a big hammer too.
If you're looking to establish some distance between you and your foes then the Halberd might be the better choice for you. Interestingly this model is pretty androgynous so you could probably get away with this being a female character if you wanted.
This Captain with a crossbow also falls into that camp. I could see him/her as being one of those wanderers in the wild who was used to the hunting lifestyle before being drafted into the service of a Wizard.
Last but not least we have another fellow from a more exotic land with a bow in hand. Interestingly more heavily armoured for an archer but then again as a Captain he probably wanted to make sure he wasn't shot back.
As you can see the range for Frostgrave is growing steadily and it's also rather widely available meaning that you shouldn't be feeling too stuck for models. The benefit of being able to pick up any Fantasy models for this game, not just the official range, means that a lot of people are snapping it up.
What do you think?

Very nice. I was planning on recycling mostly miniatures already in my collection for Frostgrave, but their range is getting better and better so I guess I’ll have to add some more. Darn.
Good job. There are unwritten rules about not buying more figures than you need to. If there were a wargamers guild then you could run the risk of expulsion for non compliance. 🙂
Seriously though your right. Frostgrave has put to good use many figures that I have randomly bought over the years.
Those are very nice.
Its the models that make me consider frost grave, there are some real gems in the range and plastic kits are top notch for make your own characters
