John gets stuck in to painting up the Genestealer Brood for Lost Patrol, adding the mottled effect you all voted for.

That mottled effect really looks stonking amazing! Can’t even see the green paint leave the airbrush.

Nice idea John! I wonder how much a wash would interfere with that nice fade that you have going on some the Genestealers limbs?

Is it possible to achieve that ‘mottled effect’ or something similar without an airbrush at all ?
I’m asking this as a newbie level painter …

Yes, it is possible to replicate that effect without an airbrush but you will have to paint all the dots with a paintbrush. A bit longer though.

I was thinking more of this myself :

Not sure if that’s practical with miniatures though.

That technique might work well on flat surfaces like armour or carapace. You might run into trouble when you try to paint on detailed curved shapes like arms, faces etc. You run the risk of scraping the bristles along the parallel edges, making streaks instead of dots.

I think you did amazingly with the mottled effect! I think the carapace should be a different colour though for contrast, but it is 100% solid work on the painting. Put them up in what are you painting now 😀 Your painting them now 😛

Which stencil are you using? I’d love to pick one up for myself.
