The Orruks Army Next Up For Games Workshop’s Age of Sigmar
April 11, 2016 by brennon
It looks like Games Workshop have their sights set on the Orruks (Orcs) as the next army to get an update in Age of Sigmar. Some leaks popped up from a White Dwarf preview and I have to say the look is certainly different. See the rather low-rez images HERE and HERE.
You'll notice when you see the artwork that the models are decidedly different looking from this earlier piece. Gone is the old armour style in favour of something a bit more 'Epic Fantasy'. I guess you could point towards World of Warcraft for a bit of inspiration here?
I actually really like the look of the Orruks in the artwork you see on the link above. I think they fit in rather nicely to this new 'style' we're seeing from Age of Sigmar.
What do you think?

This could very well be the first AoS release that I like………but it could also very well be that prices stop me from buying anything. But all in all this is the first thing that has me curious about anything GW again.
Might grab some Orks before that particular product line is updated to these ‘Orruks’. Saying that, I might hold back until I hear more of the latest 40k rumour which centres around a boxed game featuring one Knight Warden a regular Knight and some terrain for £120 which may see the light of day at discounters as well. Always fancied a Knight model but two for the price of one with some terrain will have me jumping right in!
Not liking the look of these Orruks from the leaks I’ve seen so far, though, unfortunately.
Ah, happy to see the Black Orks fighting with the AoS Khorne guys. That must mean the Black Orks kit is staying put? Always liked that one! No rush to pick it up before it disappears and prices rocket on fleabay then. *phew* 🙂
Fighting in the artwork header above, I meant. Why can’t we edit our posts BoW? Get with the 21st century lads! 😛
Worrying, but I think it’s the paint scheme that makes them look a little too much like toys. Yellow is not the best colour. If the final products are actually too space-mariny and clean, then it will be another nail in AoS’s coffin. But if it turns out it’s just the yellow-paint scheme, and on closer inspection these models are full of lovely details, and orcish banter – rather than what looks like weird perfectly forged armour (for orcs) – then GW will be onto a winner. The pics are too low res – it looks like their armour does… Read more »
Didn’t the Yellow Moons favour yellow as their colours ?
I’m more worried about the lack of Orkish chaos in the models themselves.
It looks far too clean …
Everything looks cleaner in low res. If I wander round my house without my glasses on, I find I can’t see the dust 😉
I’m sure the actual models will be pretty nifty – they can’t possible mess up Orcs, they’re fool-proof.
The yellow doesn’t work for me either and I’m not sure why as I love the Bad Moon Orks of 40k.
I think I’d go with a more grubby metallic look.
Another “rococo” paint scheme (moooaaar gold, yellow, gold and skulzzz and red and goooold) and another batch of 40K like huge armors… The more it’s huge, the more it’s rococo the best apparently…
That’s quite sad because the game system itself seems a fresh taste of air in the GW ranges.
Well those do look rather interesting take on Orcs but that color scheme is really bad because it’s so over bright that it hurts my eyes.
This is the first of the age of sigmar models I’ve just thought no to. They look like they need a bolta in there hands.
Man…
Even the “Orruks” look like Space Marines now? This is unbelievable. Are they going to make a single model in this line that’s not a testosterone-soaked muscle-man with giant shoulder pads?
I reserved judgement on AoS for an awful long time, but at this point I am really losing hope.
I’m liking them nice big chunky orcs , would not go with the yellow armour though.
Ooooh, Space Marorks!
This is still a fantasy game, right?
Can’t say the models are bad, but I’d most likely hijack them to a different universe.
from what is visible i think these look like some pretty cool and bulky orcs
seem like nice figures.
It is worth bearing in mind that the fluff for these guys – the Ironjaws – specifically states that they are the largest and most physically powerful of Orruk kind since, like 40K Orks, the more an Orruk fights the larger and stronger it becomes. Much as the Bloodtide Khornate guys exist alongside other, more conventional Chaos Warrior forces, similarly the standard Orruks aren’t going anywhere – these new models are simply part of a new sub faction that expands upon the imagery surrounding Black Orcs in much the same way as Fyreslayers are a further development of the Old… Read more »
They are making life very easy for chinese recasters… they are basically forcing to buy the old stuff from them.
Looks ugly to me, but I think that’s mainly the yellow paintjob. If the armour had been painted dark silver or rusty then they’d probably fit in next to the current Black Orcs.
Why do people keep mis-spelling Orcs/Orks as Orruks?
I hope they’re more badass, and less cartoony.
“What do you think?”
1) Aw… I wanted elves…
2) When did ‘epic’ come to mean ‘armour about 2-3 times the size of the guy wearing it’?
3) Fitting that the fantasy Space Marines and fantasy World Eaters now have fantasy Meganobz to play with.
4) Is everyone getting a dragon, now?
The name change is stupid. I hope the new models aren’t stupid too.
