Steamforged Games To Create Dark Souls Board Game
March 31, 2016 by brennon
Steamforged Games, the minds behind Guild Ball, are going to be taking to Kickstarter in April alongside Bandai Namco to create a Dark Souls Board Game...
Dark Souls, for the uninitiated, is a dark fantasy adventure game where you take an undead soul through a cryptic and dying world hoping to piece together the story of how the world came to be as it is AND battle deadly enemies as you do.
The Kickstarter for this project is going to run beginning in April of this year. It will be interesting to see how they translate the mystifying narrative and the punishing yet rewarding difficulty of Dark Souls onto the tabletop.
Interestingly Eric Lang is also working on a Bloodborne Board Game too so it looks like we're going to have many avenues into the misery of defeat on the tabletop.
Will you be keeping an eye out for this one?

I fully expect the minis in this game to be Steamforged’s usual kick ass standard.
Well, the Souls series is one of my favorites so my interest in piqued. That said, I wonder how it can be translated into a physical game…? Time will tell 🙂
Definitely going to be interesting how they interpret it! At least Guild Ball is such a bloody well designed game, leaves me with a lot of confidence for what they will do!
Wow! Steam forged games must be entering a whole new level to be working on this. Guild-ball is fast becoming a staple club game with miniatures IMO that stand shoulder to shoulder with Infinity – it will be fascinating to see what they do with this IP.
prepare to die (see what I did there)
Can’t wait to see what they come up with for this! Looks like all of the pieces are being put into place..
Prepare to die wallet and bank account.
I am really looking forward to this game. I’m a rather big Dark Souls fan and hearing this news makes me very happy.
Really interesting, even for someone like me who has merely glanced at Dark Souls.
Well.. as a massive fan of the games, the imagery and atmosphere that was created for the game is exceptional. If they can carry that into the boardgame (and some way to represent dying repeatedly I guess! 🙂 ) then hopefully we should have a winner on our hands!
WANT!!!!!!
I’m one of the uninitiated but it’s an intriguing concept and I’ve just picked up some Guild Ball stuff (which I’m well impressed with). Another one to watch, then
Yes!!!
1. April maybe?
Oh, this News was from yesterday, so no April joke….
Quite surprising that nothing was mentioned with the KS coming this month
Looks like April is becoming an expensive KS month. Rum & Bones wave 2 and now this. 🙂
As a fan of the games I’m definitely intrigued, though Kickstarter is beginning to drain funds.
Mmm, definitely a very interesting and challenging setting to make a good boardgame for. The closest I’ve seen thus far would have to be Kingdom Death Monster, the rpg-levels of depth, weirdness and general feeling of despair do give out a Dark Soul-y vibe.
From Software would definitely be all over this one, they certainly aren’t going to let anybody mess up their IP. Hope SteamForged do something cool with it, especially if there will be a lot of miniatures for it.
Ha! darklight memento mori Kickstarter just finished and has a very heavy Dark Souls influence to it! Gonna have myself two Dark Souls board games now!
This could be interesting. I’m wondering how they will contain the explorative nature of the computer game in a board.
this is how i imagine the game:
what does the ruleset says…
